“Interesting, flavorful, well prepared food.”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

It's a real pleasure to have well prepared vegetarian options in addition to excellent sandwiches (pastrami on rye is Very good). Awesome Gardinerites who participate actively in the community with sculpture and support of artists as well as serving up fine food.
At the last Art Walk Rob was serving up free samples of interesting beers for tasting as well as selling a small plate buffet that included pork loin, spiced chicken sate style with garlic sauce. WSC also provides wine tastings. Added to all of this were live musicians inside and out at the outside tables. This is a Fun place!

“Great little cafe!”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

This is a wonderful little cafe on the corner in downtown Gardiner. They have delicious homemade sticky buns and the other treats look wonderful! Fresh, hot, tasty coffee. Their sandwiches and soups are fresh, homemade and very tasty! Can't wait for them to serve dinner!

“A Magical Corner Of Epicurean Goodness”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

I've been a patron of the Water Street Cafe since it opened, making the pilgrimage from Wiscasset to Gardiner several times over the last few years...driving that distance tells you that is really something special.

Nestled as it is on the corner of downtown Gardiner, a funky town in Maine, with a waterfront park, arts scene, and wonderful architecture, the Water Street Cafe is a "must see, must taste" destination.

Amy, Rob and their staff always have the most creative and sumptuous epicurean creations, from my favorite the "Grown Up Grilled Cheese" to a great wine and gourmet treat selection. I only wish we had a Water Street Cafe here on the coast.

You will be delighted!

“a real secret surprise in this one (Water Street Cafe, not Waterstreet, BTW)”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

From the outside, this is just a fairly charming corner café in a small Maine town. The surprise is inside - a famous chef, off of the successful development and sale of a number of big name and well regarded restaurants in Portland and the surrounding area, who seems to have decided to make this his little place his retirement gem. Many places these days say they use local fresh ingredients, but in most cases the results seem to be in name only. Here, the salads just blew me away. The dressings are home made from scratch (even the mayonnaise!). It may be a reach, but mine just may have been the best salad I remember having, ever. The flavors of the greens had that just picked five minutes ago taste, explosive. I had a BLT too, on sourdough white. Not a big deal, one would say, but among the BLT's of the world, this was one of the best. That's where the craft-made mayo came in. Layers of flavor. So far, the place is open only for lunch, but they are looking to be open for dinner a few nights. Also, it is BYOB; they sell wine and beer. but only for retail, not for consumption on the premises until they go to a bar and evenings. The place, including the kitchen, is spotless, a good sign. Too, the kitchen is open, so you can look in and see for yourself, always comforting. I'd say it is worth a trip, and if you are already in the area, it is certainly a must stop for lunch, dinner hopefully in the future. PS - one of the owners makes art sculptures (expensive - one set, a table and chairs on display cost something like $3600) out of massive truck parts, see pic. If there is a gearhead in your group, grown up or kid, these are an added and unusual attraction. See if he or she can identify the parts. Which one is from a diff, which from an engine?
