This is a fantastic bargain hotel, centrally located, and great for a girls' shopping trip or also a family getaway. We went for February school break and it was a great trip. All Hilton's have exactly what we need: a huge room, a tub that fits two kids, nice and clean, breakfast in the hotel and kids eat free, crib, and it just makes sense for my family to stay at a Hilton over other hotels since we just can't go too fancy with kids -- they make too much of a mess. Albeit, the rooms are in need of a cosmetic overhaul. It actually isn't up to the same standard as other Hiltons...even the Hilton Garden Inn in Portland is a dramatic difference. This one rings in much cheaper though so just fit your budget. It's only a 15 minute time difference between the two.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same I think but if you've got kids, get a room on the main floor near the...

This is a great hotel for the location alone! No need to search for parking, the hotel is two blocks from Main Street, where there are outlet stores, little shops, and restaurants. The rooms were clean, staff was very helpful. The only complaint was the breakfast, very greasy, and the glasses available were not clean. Otherwise, great stay!

Room Tip: The king rooms have sleep number beds

We booked a long weekend in Freeport, ME and selected the Hilton Garden Inn based on its location. We couldn't have picked a better spot. We were able to walk to the cute little market, and the main St. shopping. Even with kids, there was plenty to do within walking distance. The area was nice and quiet, but still close to everything. The pool kept the kids entertained, and was nice and warm for the parents to get in with them. :)

We looked all around Freeport and I just loved the look of this hotel. We went inside and the desk clerk was very polite and friendly. We loved the bar area. We were able to relax with a glass of wine and just talk. Very romantic. We stayed in a standard King room and loved the wireless internet. Just ask the desk clerk not to put you in a room next to the fitness room. The early treadmill was very loud. I can't wait to come back this summer.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a room next to the fitness room. The noise of people using the equipment...

The "outlet stores" that clog Freeport may not always represent great value -- I'm increasingly suspicious that the outlet-store affectation means any real savings anymore -- but this hotel sure does. In or out of season it's one of the best-run, most welcoming HGIs in the system, easily the nicest place to stay in Freeport and a terrific base for exploring the mid-coast.

The hotel is standard-issue HGI architecture and decor but was built on the site of a venerable old shoe factory (commemorated with a lobby display). It's a quiet four-story building tucked away two blocks south of the congested Freeport Main Street, but within walking distance to pubs and restaurants, LL Bean (still a fun visit, 24/7), and all those dubious outlet stores.

Rooms are on the bigger side. Hot water and water pressure are both great (and they're sometimes an issue in Maine). Modern HVAC controls keep you warm when it's frigid outside or cool in humid summers. There are big HD televisions and new, comfortable beds and linens. And breakfast is to the usual generous HGI standard... plenty of cold / continental items plus hot items cooked to order on demand. Free coffee and cookies usually on offer in the lobby.

I've never met a staffer here who was anything short of friendly, professional, and welcoming. They will help you scrape the ice off your car in the winter and help you plan day-trips and tourist drives in the summer.

I've had great stays here for about six years, since shortly after it opened, and the really nice thing about this HGI is how hard they try even though there's not much competition from other name-brand hotels. (Maine can be hit-or-miss in the hospitality department, especially north of Portland.) It's pretty quiet up the coast in the depths of winter, for example, but this place is always a glowing, friendly spot on the map, and I am always pleased to return. Great staff, good value, and they earn repeat business.

We travel to Freeport several times per year for shopping. This is the first time we have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn but it won't be the last.

We had a king-bed room ($119/night) which was very clean and comfortable. Our room had a fridge and a microwave as well as a flat screen t.v. and free internet. The mattress was adjustable depending on how firm/soft you like it. We slept like babies every night.

We ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant and it was excellent. For $9.95 you get a full buffet with bacon, sausages, oatmeal, pastries, bagles, toast, yogurt, fruit, juices, milk, coffee, tea and made to order eggs and omelettes.

All staff were extremely friendly especially Star at the front desk.

This hotel is in a great location for walking to the shops. It's just a few minutes (less than 5) to LL Bean.

We ate at Amato's (just ok), Johnny Rockets (great burgers of course) and The China Rose (great). The Freeport Cafe (at the Best Western) is also great for breakfast.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again.
