“'Great' says it all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2011

Yes, there was a wait, and yes, we waited on the enclosed deck. When you visit a eatery that is not just a tourist spot, but also place regularly visited by the local you have to expect that. NOW- the important part is: The wait is worth it!
Not only was the food great, as well as the service, we got to enjoy talking with a few of the locals during our wait. The service was fantastic considering this is a 'local watering hole' that was being overrun by a bunch of tourists!
Long story short- Great place to eat, great people to meet.

“Delightful and Delicious place to eat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2011

The Cafe is like going back to a better time when food was all made to order and the staff always enjoyed their work. When you enter you are greeted with a smile and after you see how good the food is, you will leave with a smile.
We always have breakfast here when we stay at the Inn next door. The menu has a wide range of choices but I usually can't resist the homemade Corned Beef Hash. It is fabulous. We always enjoy the locally made jams and jellies that are served with your meal. Overall it's an excellent value as indicated by lots of locals that apparently enjoy it on a regular basis. Get there early and avoid the rush.
Sometime I would like to try their lunches and dinners but our schedule usually involves a morning departure.

“Nostalgic local diner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2011

The cafe is maybe on step up from a diner...with all the wonderful, delicious foods that word brings to mind.

We have eaten here both when staying at the Inn and as we pass by. Breakfast to dinner, we haven't had a bad meal yet. The staff is almost unchanged from year to year, including several nomadic servers who go south for the winter and return every April. Pleasant with a small town spirit.

The food is basic and delicious, traditional Maine recipes and traditional home-cooked recipes. We were stranded at the Inn in a spring time storm, and were able to get meals throughout the 2 day period. That was a lifesaver.

“Great place for breakfast!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2011

Had breakfast twice while visiting Freeport. Good variety of items, from muffins to oatmeal to omlettes. Homemade jams and marmalades. Great blueberry pancakes with lots of fresh blueberries. Great omlettes. Friendly staff; photos and paintings of Maine on the wall for sale.

“Scallops worthy of a five-star restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2011

My husband and I visited The Freeport Cafe to escape from the exhausting melee of the Yarmouth Clam Festival. We just wanted a quiet, simple, home-cooking-type dinner. What a pleasant surprise! I ordered the special -- broiled scallops, he, the yankee pot roast.

My scallops were not only done to perfection in a garlicky, buttery sauce, but were accompanied by the best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten anywhere.

My husband's pot roast meat was very tasty and melt-in-the-mouth tender with absolutely no visible fat.

The service was brisk and friendly and the price very affordable. We can't wait to try one of their breakfasts.
