Description: Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-six years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

We loved visiting this place. Such an authentic feeling in a way too commercialized. This place feels like you're at a lodge. We got a brewery sampler and the pub style and seasonal pumpkin were the best. I ordered the French onion soup, that could use more cheese on top. I also had the ale battered chicken sandwich and a side salad, both very good. Husband got the surf and turf of flank steak and calimari and he loved it.

We had been here before and enjoyed the beer, and once again were not disappointed during this visit. They brew all their own and you can get some good tasting ones, from their originals to seasonals like the Halloween brew. The place is usually crowded and the night we were there was no different, but we were able to grab a seat outside immediately. The waitress was friendly and attentive enough throughout. Food-wise, we started with the smoked pork fries, which are amazing! These and the beer are worth the visit alone! They are sweet potato fries, with smoked bbq pork and cheddarjack cheese on top with a maple sour cream. They are as tasty as they sound, not to be missed! My husband got the lamb burger as well and said it was good, but not mind blowing. Our friend ordered the mussels, and didn't have any complaints. I had the lobster mac and cheese, and I have to say was very disappointed. The mac and cheese part isn't bad, but there was no real strong cheese flavor to it. The lobster part of it was almost non-existent, as I was hard pressed to find even half a dozen small pieces of lobster in it. The fried jalapenos on top are very odd, and while they don't have a bad flavor, the don't really seem to go with the dish. But the cornbread was good, but I would not get that entree again. But with good beer and pork fries, it was still a decent visit and we would go back again.

Staying in downtown Freeport we walked to our favourite watering/feeding hole and again were not disappointed. Not only did we get an enjoyable pub supper with the Blackened Chicken Quesadillas (for her) and a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich of shaved steak, peppers and onions topped with American cheese on a sub roll (for me), all washed down with a couple of pints of IPA, but because of the open seating at a long bench table we were able to have an enjoyable conversation with another couple.

I would go back for the fish & chips, they are that good. There was a lot of us that night and sadly we were seated in the bar, really noisy. We had the lamb burger which was really good, lobster roll and burgers. The star is the fish and chips and the beer.

We stopped here expecting great pub food. Well, that didn't happen. The best part of the experience was the young man at the host stand. He was friendly and helpful. But, as soon as we got seated it all went down hill. We had, hands down, the RUDEST waitress ever. She didn't want to be there and it was painfully obvious. We ordered our drinks and had some questions about menu items, that was a mistake...it made her even more mad. The drinks were ok (bloody mary & beers) the food was delivered (well, slapped down on the table) It wasn't good (and if you ask me, over priced) Keep in mind we were a table of 8... that has tip potential, but clearly she didn't care, at all. We ate SOME of our food, and it was clear we were done, we sat there for about 10 minutes and one person at our table had to get up and find the waitress for the check.
What a waste of a vacation meal.
