We had lunch at Gritty's in mid-August, and will go back. We were able to sit on the deck - always a bonus in northern New England! The menu is eclectic, reflecting the brew pub and also the prevalence of fresh seafood on the coast of Maine.
We started with the spinach/artichoke dip, and if you read my reviews, you know this is a favorite. Gritty's was an outstanding example - creamy, redolent of garlic, and served piping hot. Then I had a lamb burger - an option I was delighted to have, and upgraded to sweet potato friesd. My partner ordered his favorite fried Maine shrimp, with double cole slaw in lieu of French fries. (Maine shrimp are tiny, but delicious if fried correctly and not overcooked.) The lamb was cooked medium as requested; it was juicy and tasty - a rare treat. Sweet potato fries were quite good, although nothing exceptional. The shrimp were also well-cooked and delicious; however, when my partner asked for cocktail sauce he was presented with something more like salsa - very chunky and not conducive to dunking shrimp. He also expressed disappointment in the cole slaw, which he found to be bland. Neither of us drink beer, so I can't address that; I did, however, enjoy a glass of Glass Root Cabernet. The wine list offers a little something for everyone.
Bottom line - we've been to Gritty's twice, and will almost certainly return the next time we're in Freeport.
