Description: Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-six years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

We had lunch at Gritty's in mid-August, and will go back. We were able to sit on the deck - always a bonus in northern New England! The menu is eclectic, reflecting the brew pub and also the prevalence of fresh seafood on the coast of Maine.

We started with the spinach/artichoke dip, and if you read my reviews, you know this is a favorite. Gritty's was an outstanding example - creamy, redolent of garlic, and served piping hot. Then I had a lamb burger - an option I was delighted to have, and upgraded to sweet potato friesd. My partner ordered his favorite fried Maine shrimp, with double cole slaw in lieu of French fries. (Maine shrimp are tiny, but delicious if fried correctly and not overcooked.) The lamb was cooked medium as requested; it was juicy and tasty - a rare treat. Sweet potato fries were quite good, although nothing exceptional. The shrimp were also well-cooked and delicious; however, when my partner asked for cocktail sauce he was presented with something more like salsa - very chunky and not conducive to dunking shrimp. He also expressed disappointment in the cole slaw, which he found to be bland. Neither of us drink beer, so I can't address that; I did, however, enjoy a glass of Glass Root Cabernet. The wine list offers a little something for everyone.
Bottom line - we've been to Gritty's twice, and will almost certainly return the next time we're in Freeport.

Excellent ale selection, some of the inside seating is benches/shared tables at crowded times.
Food is very good. Summer special of 2 lobster rolls for $20: they are a little small, but two (with fries and cole slaw included) is a filling lunch. They also offer a single lobster roll or lobster roll plus clam chowder. Philly steak sub is large and filling.

Only visited in the evening when it had a great atmosphere. Traditional Irish band playing at ground floor and a great funk band playing on first floor. Great very mixed crowd. The bar had a great choice of different beers.

Great to go to after a long day of outlet shopping and walking around. You can grab a drink at the bar while you wait for your name to be called. Rustic place to just sit down and unwind before you finish shopping or get back to your road-trip. A must eat!

Good:
-Happy Hour, 3pm= $2 happy hour beer & well drinks
-Portions were big enough to split between two diners
-Smoked Pork Fries
-Mac & Lobster
-Smoked Salmon Salad
-Eat outside if it is not raining

Bad:
-30 minute wait but it was busy and flew by

We loved it so much we ate here three times on our week long honeymoon in Maine. Great home brewed English style beers and delicious grub! All the typical pub food done well with a few amazing twists thrown in. They were even more than happy and prepared to make substitutions to accommodate my seafood allergy!! We will be coming back here for sure!!!
