Description: Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-six years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

My husband and I stopped into Gritty's during our drive from Portland to Acadia and I am so glad that we chose this restaurant since it was the best food we ate during our stay in the Portland / Acadia / Bar Harbor area. The Haddock was to die for and the sides were huge (broccoli cooked just right and super tasty potato pancake). It was a nice day so we were able to sit outside on the deck. So glad we did. Service was absolutely wonderful. Hubby said the beer was great too.

We met some family here for supper, everyone liked their food,I had the Mac and cheese which had fried jalapeños and it was very good, and the price was more than fair.

Decided to try out Gritty's based on mostly favourable trip advisor reviews as we were vacationing in Freeport. The experience has made us doubt the authenticity of this travel site. Expecting decent pub food we arrived for dinner on Wednesday night in early June.
A couple leaving the place as we arrived was overheard muttering "never again" to each other; an ominous sign but we were hungry and decided to give it a shot. Bad choice!
The pub inside is in rough shape and in need of some renos. We were seated and given menus quickly. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer...big mistake. Tasteless salsa with oddly textured tortilla chips...just not good (how does any pub worth it's salt not serve good nachos??). At the server's recommendation I ordered the "home made root beer". Better off with a can of grocery store soda...strange after-taste. I ordered a turkey salad sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The bread used to make the sandwich could not have been more ordinary and the slaw was inedible (going bad?). My wife's mac and cheddar was surprisingly lacking in cheesiness and she stated that it was much worse than a box of the grocery store variety.
We left feeling angry and cheated by the trip advisor reviews which were not even close to being accurate. Use this review as a warning to stay away and select another dining option.

The brewpub had a very quaint New England pub atmosphere, although the acoustics left a little to be desired. It was quite noisy in the indoor dining area. The food was very good, as was the service.

A fun place to go for a drink and dinner. The bartender explained what all the mugs hanging everywhere were all about. The food was good and the other patrons were interesting to visit with. Close to our hotel.
