Some what skeptical of a Desert in Maine, But there it was and a very intresting place to visit. The sand is like powered sugar and seems to be pushed up out of nowhere. Very cool place for the family to visit and spend some time.

When we arrived in Maine, my daughter commented that you could see oceans, rainforest like areas, rocky areas, bogs, and woods in Maine and that the only thing that would complete it, would be a desert. Well we found one and it was great! Interesting story of how it came to be what it is today. My daughter loved hunting for gems in the sand and touring the museum.

Very educational in a fun way. 20 minute ride around an REAL desert in Maine with picuture opportunities. The tour guide very knowledgable and imparted wisdome with fun and passion. Barn with original farming equipment interesting. A children's gem find also. I would go during the summer, as we went on closing day , and it was cold. COLD in the DESERT. :)

Really enjoyed this tour. Helped me appreciate how we impact our environment and how the damages done know can impact us for a lifetime and can sometimes be irreversible. Interesting statistics on how this desert has grown and the depth of it.

Yes, it is interesting to learn the story behind how a desert came to be in Maine, but for the cost of the admission, the tour is very short because there really isn't much to see. Children under a certain age are allowed to search the sand for gems and keep a small number of them.
