Owner description: Maine state park that offers a scenic walk along Casco Bay.

We were in Maine for a long weekend and were glad to get out of Freeport and into the woods for a hike. $9 did seem like a steep entry fee for the two of us but it was worth it to me to be out in nature along the water and relatively close to where we were staying in Freeport. We watched a couple of osprey parents try to coax their little one from the nest on an island right off the park shore. The hike it self was easy enough and we encountered no bugs. I wouldn't say the views were jaw dropping but they were Maine-y enough for me and in the end it was what I wanted for the day. You probably only need to plan a couple hours for this park.

Wolfe's Neck Woods is one of our favorite places to visit. There are easy trails, but the best is the Casco Bay Trail that goes along the rocky shore and stops several places to allow a view of the osprey nest on Coggin's Island. We were there right after a bad storm that had blown down the nest with the three chicks. Naturalists were able to build a platform and restore the nest. The chicks were found and returned to the nest and the parents came back to care for them. We watched the parents fishing and feeding the young. Take good binoculars.

We wanted a nice place for a late afternoon walk with views, near Freeport. The high ratings convinced us to pay $9 for entry for two. We weren't offered a map, and the trails were not easily figured out. So despite my iPhone map app, we were reluctant to do a lot of exploring, having only seen one sign with the overview of the whole park. If you go, be prepared with bug repellent - mosquitos were out in force in early August. Also, if you are hoping for great views, you'll be disappointed. You can see the coastline thru the trees, but there are only a few places we found where you get out into an open observation area. One surprise: nice clean modern restrooms. Not a waste of time, but not worth a special trip.

We did a quick hike since it was near the end of the day it was a nice hike with great views and lookouts. The warden did ask us to drop off our map when we done with it,which I thought was a bit funny. It's a nice break from shopping.

On our trip to Freeport outlets we decide to take a break from shopping and explore the area. Oh, what a treasure the Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park turned out to be!!! It was easy to find and the warden who greeted us at the gate was super nice and friendly. It costs $8.00 to enter the park but it is well worth the price. There is quite a bit of parking, the trails are clearly marked, the map easy to follow and everything is beautifully maintained. We hiked for an hour seeing all kinds of wonderful sites including nesting Osprey's!!! They have multiple picnic tables, a drinking fountain and flush toilets. We are definitely returning to this park in the future.
