After facing the shopping mecca of Freeport, we always enjoy finding a quiet place for a walk. Wolf's Neck is a bit of drive outside the village (4+ mi) but well worth the side trip, especially off-season. Well-marked trails, well-maintained & "hardened" where the multitudes of visitors might cause erosion. Some trails follow the bay, with a network of cross-trails that allow you to take shorter or longer walks. Some gentle climbing required, but definitely a place to bring children. There are interpretative signs explaining the ecology of the area. Best of all, one can observe an osprey nest on Googins Island, as well as seeing these wonderful birds flying around the bay.

Accessible, walkable, wooded, coastal... Wolfe's Neck is definitely a pleasant little getaway where you can unwind after a visit to the nearby shopping district of Freeport, just minutes away. Try out your new hiking boots or binoculars after a spree at the famous L.L. Bean outdoor specialty store, work off a few calories post-lunch, or see it as a destination unto itself if you find yourself slightly north of Portland.

Trails are fairly mellow but can be rooty and rocky, which is nice and natural; it's not a stone dust paved walk in the woods by any stretch, nor is it steep or challenging. Its calm, protected inner bay-type area doesn't get raging surf but instead provides a calming, undulating tidal current that's a perfect setting for relaxation.

Though not expansive and perhaps not worth a specific out-of-your-way visit, Wolfe's Neck is nonetheless a great little stretch of natural coastal woodland within easy reach between Brunswick to the north and Portland to the south.

I had the opportunity to hike the trails this winter and it was breathtaking to be in the forest, see the waterscapes, and be totally alone with nature. Well worth the trip out of Freeport!

Stopped at this tiny little park while staying in Freeport. Threw a few dollars in the self-pay register and parked. Found the trails to be free of litter, easy walking and well-marked. Views of Casco Bay were gorgeous, trails lead right down to the water. Great place to get a little exercise!

I have been visiting this park my entire life, the trails are beautiful and well maintained. I recently took a date for a walk here and it was well received.
