This is a favorite place for us and great for the kids to spend an afternoon exploring the shore. Parking can be a bit iffy on the weekends.

Nice place to wander around for a relaxing day.
Paths all over the island. Nice places to sit. A nice little beach and fantastic views.

I live in Maine and never heard of Mackworth Island. I was looking for something to do for a day trip with my fiancé and dog. So we went and we had a great time. Got some great pictures. It was just a great place to go to be outside and enjoy the view in Maine. They have nice spots scattered about the walk to sit and enjoy the view. We did the hike around the island twice. Just so nice and peaceful. If your not from Maine I suggest giving it a try. It's not to long of a hike around so it doesn't take your whole day. It's just over a mile. So if you wanted to do something else. The only thing is, very little parking. if you really want to go it suggests on the site to go early morning. We got lucky an got the last spot. They allow you to wait five minutes for a spot if none open you have to go. But you could always try back. If you bring your dog it has to be on a leash.

Nice, pleasant hike on a well-maintained 1.25-mile trail around an island connected to the town of Falmouth by a causeway. There is only parking for 20 or so cars, and you will be turned away at the guardhouse if the lot is full. The streets on the other side of the causeway have many no-parking signs for May through October, so that's not an option either. We did the walk on a sunny day in April, a nice time of year to do it because the trees were bare and we had water views continuously. In the summer you might not see as much. There are three or four places where staircases have been built down to the water. You are required to stay on the trail because the interior of the island is taken up by the campus of a school for deaf children. A very nice place to stretch your legs and get some exercise.

What a great time we had. Walk the shore line, or the trail. Climb the rocks or wooded path. Don't forget to pick up interesting objects and plant life along the way so you can make a fairy house built with your own imagination in the village near the end of the trail. Such a great time to share with kids.
