I strongly recommend a stay at the Talbot House Inn in East Machias. It is 30 minutes to Lubec where you can go through Canadian customs then tour Campobello Island (Roosevelt's summer home). Michael welcomed us in the driveway and showed us to a lovely upper floor bedroom. The Inn is very clean, full of interesting furniture, history galore and the lovely breakfast served in the dining room was delicious. I would highly recommend this place to stay.

The Talbot House Inn is a marvelously and lovingly renovated historic house, spotlessly clean with comfortable beds, private bathrooms and lots of great historic details. In a unique corner of Maine's Washington county, the Inn could be an excellent place to stay for those exploring the coastal, hiking, birding, historic sights of the area. We were in the area for a work meeting and glad we had the chance to experience the Inn. Breakfast was fantastic and lots of other great touches (full cookie jar, coffee/tea available around the clock, extra outlets, etc) We really hope to be back.

Room tip: All rooms are lovely and fairly quiet in our experience.

This was the perfect place for our family to stay on our Maine road trip. The rooms were lovely and spacious, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts were very attentive and helpful. Would highly recommend if you're staying anywhere nearby.

The Inn keepers, Liz and Michael were extremely helpful with all of our questions. They volunteered to arrange breakfast around the boats time schedule. We stayed in room 6 for 3 nights and it was beautiful. Big comfortable queen sized bed with lots of pillows. The antiques were beautiful and the room had all modern conveniences including a TV. Great blending of old and new. Breakfast was amazing with your choice of fresh fruit, cold cereals, muffins, bagels and then a main hot course likes strawberry stuffed french toast. The Inn is really close to Rt 191 which you take into Cutler to see the puffins. I would definitely stay there again as there are many hiking trails around. We saw bald eagles just walking around the grounds.

Great place to visit. Host were very accommodating and paid close attention to details during our two day stay. Would recommend this B&B for work or fun. Close proximity to the marina where our Puffin adventure began.
