My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights, just arriving home last night. What a beautiful spot. East Boothbay is wonderful, away from the crowds and noise. The inn sits in a beautiful location, right on a bay with a public access dock and nice quiet roads to wander. The rooms are very clean. The afternoon tea features warm homemade cookies every day! Breakfast was a real delight for this foodie ;-) There were all sorts of delicious options every morning, and the hosts go out of there way to make sure every guest feels welcome, has what they need, etc. I truly cannot think of one thing they need to change! Steve and Susan, the new owners, have more than stepped into a role they are very, very good at! I applaud all of their hard work, we cannot wait to return!

Room Tip: We stayed in a third floor room with a gable / window, the slanted ceilings required a bit of neck b...

We've been staying at Five Gables for about 12 or 13 years. Learning that there were new owners, we had some trepidation about returning over Memorial Day weekend. Not to worry! Susan and Steve and their kids did a fantastic job making everyone feel welcome and pampered. The breakfasts continue to delight, afternoon tea is wonderful. We're going back in July!

The weather was awful but we didn't mind. This inn is cozy and warm. Fireplace, library, comfy chairs, cookies.....just enough to recharge ourselves. Breakfast is exceptional and we are close to isolated walks along the waterfront and, best of all, Maine botanical garden. We will definitely return next year.

Room Tip: Upstairs have better views.

We just returned from a trip to Kennebunkport and I won't name the B&B we stayed in there but it was quite expensive. There was a lot of hype about the room and particularly about the breakfast. All the time I kept thinking how much superior the food at Five Gables Inn was. We even purchased one of their cookbooks and have tried many of the recipes. Of course, it tasted better in Maine.

Anyhow, I felt guilty for not leaving a fabulous review of Five Gables. We like to try new places and rarely return to the same place twice but the rooms were so clean and beautiful, the setting so perfect, and those breakfasts on the porch were amazing, we'll be making an exception. The hosts were also fantastic. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the gabled rooms. Watch your head ;)

Our recent stay was our 15th or 16th - we've lost track, but each time is a treat. We have stayed in most of the rooms at least once, but prefer 10 and 14. The rooms are always sparkling clean and comfortable. Mike's breakfasts are legendary, especially his French toasts. You are truly fortunate to enjoy Creme Brûlée and Blueberry on one stay! And the traditional Sunday morning breakfast is always a treat. The staff, especially Lisa who often welcomes new arrivals in the evenings, are special, too. Don't miss De's chocolate chip cookies at tea!

Another lady and I stayed at the Inn earlier this month and by and large enjoyed our stay. We had the only twin room and it is really small - felt like cruise ship cabins we've been on! The bathroom was adequate but the shower was very, shall we say, friendly!Didn't want to spend lots of time in the room but found the common areas to be too busy - it was seldom, if ever, peaceful. Having stayed in inns and B&Bs many times over the years I wasn't too surprised but would have preferred a quiet retreat - even the porch seating area was bustling. It would be nice if the owners could figure out a way to make a 'quiet' area for their guests who just want to sit quietly (and we saw a few other guests who seemed to share this desire).
I would recommend the inn as it is lovely and the owners are very accomodating. I never went upstairs so only saw our room and a couple across the hall from us and they were larger and charming. The breakfasts were very nice but afternoon tea was pretty humdrum in that we had the same type of cookie for three days in a row.

Stayed at the Five Gables for only one night on the way from Belfast to Kennebunkport. Wish we'd been able to stay longer. Mike could not have been a better host. Full of information about the area and very friendly and helpful. Loved sitting on the porch in the afternoon with a book and again in the evening after dinner. Mike has suggested we walk down to the lobster pound for dinner, which we did. It started to rain on the walk back and as soon as Mike realized that, he jumped in his truck to come find us and take us back. The next day while walking around town, we heard a honk behind us and someone shouting our names. It was Mike just wishing us a good journey south. Would go back in a heart beat.
