Stayed at the Five Gables for only one night on the way from Belfast to Kennebunkport. Wish we'd been able to stay longer. Mike could not have been a better host. Full of information about the area and very friendly and helpful. Loved sitting on the porch in the afternoon with a book and again in the evening after dinner. Mike has suggested we walk down to the lobster pound for dinner, which we did. It started to rain on the walk back and as soon as Mike realized that, he jumped in his truck to come find us and take us back. The next day while walking around town, we heard a honk behind us and someone shouting our names. It was Mike just wishing us a good journey south. Would go back in a heart beat.

This review has been on my to-do list for some time now, ever since my first visit in September of 2011. The Five Gables Inn is FANTASTIC. This is the level to which all other B&B’s that I’ve stayed at should aspire to. Everything, from the property, to the owners Mike & De, to the food, to the location, is amazing.

I and my wife have stayed at the Five Gables twice now. The Inn is located a 5-8 minute drive from downtown Boothbay, ME, and has an incredible water view out over an inlet, where boats occasionally motor in and out. You can have breakfast out on the porch, even in moderately inclement weather, and the whole experience (not fully awake, morning mist, brisk air awesome coffee and food) is just incredibly relaxing and has a way of making your stress melt away.

Breakfasts are huge, very flavorful, and combine unique ingredients. Mike, one of the owners, apparently used to be a professional chef, and it shows! Everything is fresh, and neither meat-eaters nor vegetarians will go hungry - there is something for everyone. The presentation is buffet-style and very classy (see pictures). Mike and De have actually produced a cookbook which they have for sale at the check-in desk. Throughout breakfast, Mike and/or De will make the rounds and talk briefly with each of the guests to see how they are doing, make recommendations for the day’s activities, or just to catch up - many guests have been coming for years. It’s this kind of personalized attention that really sets Five Gables apart from other B&B’s, and makes guests feel like they are part of the family!

The rooms are very nice. We’ve stayed twice in the same room - Room 16 on the 3rd floor - but have looked in on other rooms in the building and they are all to the same high standards. Word of warning to taller guests - the upstairs rooms can have low ceilings and it can be easy to hit your head.

All in all, this is an incredible B&B and I haven’t found one this good yet, though not for lack of trying.

Room Tip: Top floors are quietest, but low ceilings, so tall travelers beware!

This was our 5th year here and we still love it as much as the first time. We are not the only ones who feel this way since we see lots of people there we recognize from previous years. Mike and Dee are always warm and welcoming. They go out of their way to help my parents who are elderly. Mike prepares a wonderful and plentiful breakfast each morning. There is tea and cookies in the afternoon and sherry, port and madeira in the evening. There is a wonderful front porch to sit on that overlooks the bay. All is beautiful and relaxing. The rooms are cozy and clean. We will keep going back here!

A friend sent me to the Gables 16 years ago when Mike and De first became the hosts at this lovely B&B. When my wife and I had a chance recently to return to Maine with friends, I suggested we spend a couple of nights here. What a treat it was. Mike and De are the consummate hosts-warm and welcoming, a wealth of local knowledge. Their wide relationships across the community open the doors for a special visit in this beautiful region. We stayed in room 14 with a wonderful 3 window view of the harbor. The breakfasts are special each morning. If you want to visit this part of the Central Maine coast, you couldn't have a better base of operation.

Room Tip: Some rooms are small so call and talk with Mike or De and let them help you select the best room for...

We have been guests at Five Gables every year for a long, long time and no matter where else we may have traveled between visits, we always know that this will be our favorite inn experience of the year. We feel so comfortable here that we consider this "our home away from home."

Perfect hosts, perfect location, clean comfortable rooms with great views of Linekin Bay, a relaxing front porch and spacious common room with fireplace, tea and cookies in the afternoon, Port and chocolates in the evening, and the best breakfasts in New England combine to make the Five Gables the place that you absolutely must book for your next trip to Mid-Coast Maine.

Thanks Mike, De and Lisa for another great stay!

Room Tip: We prefer rooms 8 and 10 which are corner rooms with views of Linekin Bay.

A great bed and breakfast on the Maine coast. Mike and De Kennedy are the perfect innkeepers. A half mile from East Boothbay, its location is quiet and feels special with great views onto the bay. The Inn was built as an Inn, not a house, over 100 years ago which gives it a different feel than most B and B's. Decor is Maine cottage/coast and is beautifully maintained. Great huge front porch, comfortable common rooms, and the breakfast is all that other reviews say it is.

Room Tip: Rooms vary in size but they are all attractively furnished. The porch and common room provide ample...

My wife and I have been staying at Five Gables Inn now for the past 7 years. Every trip to the Boothbay Harbor Region and Five Gables Inn has been a wonderful visit. We have stayed in just about all the rooms, and each is unique in its charm. The inn is always spotless and the bathrooms have excellent water pressure for a nice shower. The inn and surrounding area are very quiet and relaxing. You can take a quiet walk down to the local General Store and pick up some cheese and wine to enjoy back at the Inn's beautiful porch overlooking Linekin Bay or around the fireplace if the night is a little cool. The breakfast is top notch and Mike always provides a unique item, with the Crème Brûlée French Toast as one of my favorites; however, his quiches are also extremely tasty. Of course if you like a little lighter fare in the morning homemade granola, toast and fresh fruit are always available. Besides the relaxing atmosphere and delicious breakfast on the porch, the best part of Five Gables Inn are the hosts. Mike and De make you feel as dear friends visiting their summer cottage.

Room Tip: If you are over 6 feet tall I recommend not staying in the side rooms on the 3rd floor, the gables c...
