We stay at the Five Gables every year because we know Mike and De are going to do everything within their power to make sure we have a great stay. It's hard to find things to say that aren't just a rehashing of the positive reviews by other guests, but the incredibly delicious breakfasts, the views of Linekin Bay from our room and from the spacious porch, the cozy common area with a crackling fire in the fireplace, and the graciousness of the hosts bear repeating. Oh, and so do the fresh-baked cookies and tea in the afternoon and the chocolates and your choice of Port, Madiera or Cream Sherry in the evening. We travel extensively and have stayed in some outstanding properties but nowhere do we feel more at home and more "taken care of" than at Five Gables. If you plan to visit the mid-coast area of Maine you owe it to yourself to stay at the Five Gables Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms 8 (our favorite) and 10 are corner rooms that have great views of the bay.

This was our 5th year at the inn and it was great as always. Mike and Dee, the innkeepers, are wonderful hosts. You feel very welcome and comfortable. If you have any problem or need Mike goes the extra mile to be helpful. My parents have traveled with us the last 3 years and this year my Dad was recovering from a broken leg. Mike did whatever he could to make it easier on my Dad. Breakfast is great and eating it on the porch overlooking the harbor can't be beat. There is afternoon cookies with tea and at night port and sherry. On cool nights you can relax with a book in front of a cozy fire. Guest here are friendly as well. We look forward to many more stays at this inn.

Room Tip: We have stayed in 4 different rooms here. All rooms were just as stated on the web site. I think a...

We've been going to this inn for about 5 years, same week each September, bringing my in-laws with us. Mike and Dee are as gracious as can be, Mike's breakfasts are a highlight of our Maine trip (which includes a run up to Southwest Harbor and Acadia for a few days), and the Inn is welcoming, peaceful, restful. You couldn't ask for a better spot to relax. The view is outstanding, peaceful water. The common areas invite relaxed reading and this year I got my 80+ year-old in-laws to play pictionary on a nice sized table and we just laughed and laughed.

This year my father-in-law suffered some major orthopedic problems with one leg, making it hard to get around even with a walker. When he had trouble navigating his way around his room and getting into the bathroom with his wife's assistance, Mike came to the rescue by taking the door off the hinges, his own idea, and it saved the day. This kind of service on top of a generous and welcoming spirit at all times mean we will be back again and again.

The botanical gardens near by are awesome, as are the many narrated boat rides in Booth Bay.

We were fortunate enough to stay here for a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Mike and De are wonderful people and the breakfasts were out of this world. They were so helpful with where to go and what to do and every one of their recommendations were fantastic. There is a little dock right across the street and the front porch is perfect. Be sure to visit the hammock in the corner :) If you are looking for extra relaxation Body Holiday is the place to go for a massage in the area!!

Room Tip: Couple of rooms on the bottom floor if you don't do stairs.

We travelled as a group of 4 adults to the Five Gables Inn. It was just perfect.
We loved the tranquility of the Inn and the surrounding areas. De & Mike were great hosts. Breakfast on the porch was a highlight for us. Will go to this Inn again!

Five Gables was everything we'd hoped for and more - a charming inn in a beautiful and serene setting. The breakfasts were delicious and the Kennedys were the perfect hosts.

This was our second stay at the Five Gables Inn, and we very much enjoyed both visits. The inn has a marvelous location, high on a hill overlooking a peaceful bay, with a spacious porch and comfortable chairs to view the water, read, chat or just dream what life down east would be like. Our room was pleasantly furnished and very comfortable. When we arrived, there were delicious, fresh-baked cookies awaiting us with tea. And breakfast! Sooo good! Many nice touches, like cardamom seeds for your coffee, if you wish, and a buffet that absolutely tempts one into trying every hot and cold choice. Mike and Dee are super knowledgeable about the area and terrifically helpful if you need help booking something, deciding on dinner plans or looking for travel directions. Recommended choice.
