Nurture Through Nature Eco-cabin Rentals and Retreats
Reviewed May 17, 2013

This is an environment suited to contemplative practice. The brook in spring is stunning with full cascades and pools, mossy rocks and towering pine trees. The quiet is palpable. Nurture Through Nature lives up to its name: off the grid, out of the rat race, here is a place to find the solice of solitude. Warm up in the beautiful new sauna or cool down in the icy brook. Make friends with Molly the cat. Drink tea and watch the mist rise from the pines. Pursue your inquiry.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary at NTN with a 3 day stay at Robin's Nest. While short, it was exactly what we needed to reset and get away from everything. I felt nurtured by the beautiful land, the sound of the brook nearby, the sight of so many stars in the clear, crisp sky, the wood stove in the cabin. The self-check in system went flawlessly and it was so easy to book the cabin. Robin's nest was the perfect size for us, so cozy and comfortable. Plenty of room to hang out, cook, and use the wood stove. I would absolutely recommend booking a sauna as well. I haven't felt so rejuvenated in such a long time! Running from the sauna to the cold brook nearby to cool down was amazing. They provide buckets of cold creek water to pour over yourself while you are in the sauna, which was an amazing bonus. There is a lake right nearby (just a short drive, but if you were up for it you could probably walk too) where we were able to jump in and hang out. Being so accessible from Portland but still feeling like I was miles away in our own little world with my boyfriend was great. Thank you NTN!

Room Tip: Robin's Nest is perfect for a couple or a family who enjoys being cozy. A set of bunk beds and o...

My girlfriend and I stayed at NtN for a weekend getaway from work this February. Even though Jen was in California, and I was making a last minute booking, everything went smoothly via phone and text message! Jen and her winter caretakers were always available to answer questions before our trip, and to assist during our trip; we wanted for nothing.

It had just snowed a lot before our trip, but they were ready for us no problem; when we arrived in the afternoon, there was a sled for our things and a map to our little cabin - Robin's Nest - and it was great fun hiking up the small hill to get to our place. Everything was perfect when we entered; the cast-iron stove was even pre-packed with paper, kindling, and logs for us to light it and go. It was nice to have the electrical outlets, and the spice grinder made our cooking easier! The ambiance inside was cozy and welcoming, and you felt connected to other people who've stayed there thanks to the guest book. We left some of our extra scented candles behind for future guests.

I would have liked to see our cabin's floor made of boards instead of plywood; most of it was covered with carpeting, but I did worry about splinters. Also, the table where we took our meals was a bit crooked, and since it's the largest table space to prepare meals (we love to cook), it can make this tricky. The kitchen table could be a bit wider/more durable for space to chop vegetables, instead.

We did a night session in the sauna, which was fantastic; it's even more beautiful than the cabin, with cedar wood and candles inside... They even left out some oranges, pumpkin seeds, and water for us to snack on between rounds! I wish we had more than an hour inside. I could have done that all night!

The trails around the property were a bit tougher to find covered in three feet of snow; the part where the Mt. Brook trail connects to the Pioneer trail around the northeastern edge of the property line could not be found; we just clambered up the rocks at the end of the Mt. Brook trail and walked through the woods until we found the Pioneer trail, which was well marked with cairns and green blazes. The views of the White Mountains from the Pioneer trail were gorgeous!

As conservation biologists & vegans, the eco-friendly lifestyle mattered to us; it was nice to see a property set-up to welcome all people to this lifestyle. The composting toilets were clean and new-looking, while the locally-foraged wood (we never came close to running out) and all-solar electricity (didn't notice any difference) were comforting.

Overall, we loved the trip. We enjoyed our futon, we enjoyed falling asleep to the heat from a wood fire, to waking up in each other's arms for warmth and leaping out in long underwear to stoke the fire, BRRR!! (Sorry Jen, we cheated and used propane in the morning for a few minutes until the place heated up!) And we enjoyed being far enough from the roads to be at peace in the woods; definitely planning on coming back in spring or fall when the leaves are out and the outdoors are more inviting!

We had an absolutely enchanting stay at the Nurture through Nature retreat! Everything was just so quiet and peaceful. We seemed to have perfectly time things as we woke up to the most beautiful snow on Sunday morning. We stayed for 2 nights, and every amenity was truly perfect. The warm stove was such an enjoyable experience to sit around during dinner and while hanging out, and the trails at the retreat are perfect for snow shoeing. The propane stove was just what we needed, and we packed in the perfect amount of home made food. The brook that runs behind the yurt is beautiful, and the benches to sit and watch wonderful natural "landscapes" are plenty throughout the property. The sauna was amazing, and every tiny detail was perfectly set including the fresh, cold water from the brook ready and waiting for us inside. We'll be back very soon, to say the least! Thank you NTN!!

We stayed in Robin's Nest for some R&R, and did we get it! Reflexology for two, followed by a wood-fired sauna to ourselves. We topped off the weekend with a beautiful snowshoe on the property. First class service.

We spent a long weekend in February in Robin's Nest cabin. Saturday was the community sauna in their wonderful wood-fired sauna. The sauna was as good as it gets, and the cabin was great-- wood stove kept the cabin warm through the night. The nights we spent there were clear, crisp, cold winter nights-- just what we'd been looking for.
If you haven't gone but are thinking of it, this is an experience you shouldn't miss. From my first email to Jen everything was good: we got an FAQ sheet with what to bring, the directions were clear (EASY to get there), the cabin was prepped with the stove ready for us to light it up.

If you're thinking of going for one of the retreats, or just looking for a couple nights of peaceful time at one of the cabins, this is the place to go.

We just got back from a wonderful, rejuvenating and centering time at Nurture through Nature. Jen and Raja are so thoughtful about how to create a luxurious yet bare bones experience. Nothing is wasted, yet we had everything we needed. The hikes on property were tremendously beautiful. The wild blueberries were delicious and abundant. The compost toilet was truly a work of art. I wish we could have stayed longer. Our little 11-month-old loved swinging in the hammock, licking (yes, licking!) the tree bark, and taking long naps on our back in the Ergo as we carried him through the magical woods. A MUST DO: taking dips in the crystal clear mountain streams underneath the moss-covered rocks and waterfalls. Truly, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been - and I felt like I was a part of it, as we were making our own food and composting all our waste. Solar energy was the only electricity. It was completely in keeping with our values, and a total recharge of energy. Also, I had a massage in the yoga room which was amazing. Wish I was still there now! GO GO GO GO GO. You'll be so glad you did.
