“A lovely experience”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

This was my first experience 'down-East' in Maine and Pilgrim's Inn was a big part of why I enjoyed it as much as I did. The accommodations -- especially our stay in the cottage -- was super. Homey, comfortable, cozy, but put together with elegance and flair. We also spent nights in a smaller room -- it was adequate but I would strongly recommend you go for a medium or larger room. The small one is adequate but doesn't compare with the cottage or a larger room in overall comfort. The staff was very friendly, helpful and the mood was relaxed. I would love to return. I was there with my fiance and we had a great stay. The food by the way is excellent. Breakfasts are included with the price of the rooms. Dinners in the Whale Rib Tavern are not included but truly excellent and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Cottages and larger rooms are most highly recommended. Don't miss the Whale Rib Tavern that'...

We biked through Maine in July and this hotel and restaurant were on the itinerary planned by our tour company, Backroads. It's basically the only place to stay or eat in town, and thank goodness it was really nice. The rooms are all unique and very lovely. (No TV's, thank goodness.) The on site restaurant The Whale's Rib was fantastic and very crowded. The strawberry shortcake is to die for!! While one night in Deer Isle was plenty for us, I'm very glad we had the chance to discover this hotel and restaurant.

Room Tip: Very steep steps to upper floors. Plan ahead for this.

Staying at the inn provided such a wonderful home base while we returned to explore Deer Isle, this time on land and not under sail, and we found that we were always eager to return there. It is an incredibly beautiful, peaceful spot! We intended to try a few other places for dinner, but their food and menu was hard to resist and we ate there all three nights. Breakfast was delicious, hot and offered specialties by Tony, owner and chef. All staff were genuine and welcoming; our room was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean.. We will return!

Lovely, quaint Inn, with great location and excellent service. The size with 12 rooms was nice as you got know other guests. We stayed 3 nights and traveled the area on our MC. Each morning started with a great breakfast. The rooms were comfortable and 1793 elegant! We would certainly stay again. A special thanks to the innkeepers and staff.

This was our first time to Deer Isle and just loved the relaxed beauty of the area. We enjoyed Pilgrim's Inn, and will definitely return. Very friendly, the room was well appointed and spotlessly clean, and the breakfast was delicious. Be sure not to miss this Inn!

We were in Deer Isle this past week visiting family, and this was the second time we've stayed at this wonderful B&B. Last year my wife and I along with our two teenage sons stayed in the Inn, but this year, we brought along our two cocker spaniels, so we stayed in the Rugosa Rose Cottage which allows dogs. The cottage is a two story separate standing building, next to the main Inn. There are views of the beautiful lake from the private deck as well as from the upstairs bedroom. And the grassy area outside has nice areas to take a short secluded walk around the grounds. While our purpose of the visit was to visit family, there is much to do in this area. Kayaking, hiking, sightseeing at Isle au Haut or even a day trip to Acadia Mastional Park are just a few of the great attractions. Even golf is an option. OF course, the Inn itself is a great place to hang out. We had dinner at the attached Whale's Rib Restaurant. What a great dinner. My son had the Rib Eye and raved about how juicy and tender it was. My Mom and son had the burger which was absolutely huge! My wife and I both had the halibut special, and it was delicious. Cocktails were great - of course - and dessert, along with some single malt, really capped off dinner. Breakfast in the restaurant also is delicious. We were served scrambled egg and goat chees quesadillas one day, french toast and sausage another, and of course there is the buffet with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, muffins, etc...Really a great way to start your day. Tina and Tony really have a wonderful place and know how to treat their guests right. We will be staying here every year when we make our annual trip for the family reunion!

Room Tip: website does a great job describing the rooms.

We spent one night in Deer Isle on our way to a week's stay in Winter Harbor. We drove from the airport in Portland stopping in Freeport and other small towns. We arrived an hour before our reservation at the Whale's Rib restaurant in the Inn (make reservations). Our room was a lovely second floor room facing the cove across the street. It was very clean and comfortable. There was a very tiny bathroom in the room which was spotless and more than adequate. The inn was full and we were surprised at how very quiet it was despite being Friday night and having the restaurant and bar open. Coffee, tea, and fresh cookies are always available. The common rooms were comfortable and true to the decor of this 1700's Inn. Breakfast is included and delicious. We had fresh tomato, cheese, and chive omlettes with fruit and toast. Breakfast is served in the Whale's Rib restaurant. Make sure you have dinner there!

Room Tip: The website has complete descriptions and pictures of each room. They are all very nice.
