“A Jewel on the Maine Coast”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

During Christmas week we dined in a restaurant in Damariscotta whose service was only exceeded by its diversified and local source menu. Lobster, fish, chicken and steak were all offered, The wine menu was extensive along with reasonable offerings and recommendations. Happy hour was enjoyable and as noted a popular time. In a town of excellent restaurants this one clearly is one not to miss to enjoy a great dining experience.

“Wonderful food”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

Creative and tasty food. Lovely atmosphere and nice bar upstairs. Great happy hour values, too. One of the best places in town to dine.

“Excellent food, great atmosphere”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

Enjoyed a wonderful meal here. My wife and I both had one of the specials for the night (swordfish for me, scallops for her). The food was delicious, and well presented. We both had dessert as well (unusual for us) and the desserts were excellent with perfect portion sizes. Often desserts are either tiny and overpriced, or huge (usually to compensate for low quality), but these were perfect. Service was very attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere (we ate upstairs) was very pleasant, we had a table near the fireplace. We made a special trip to go here, and would do so again. As a real bonus, prices for everything were very reasonable.

If you want a nice treat, this is definitely the restaurant to go to in town. My favorite dishes are: Seafood Stew and Duck w risotto. Yummmmm

“Horrible Customer Service from the Owner Herself”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

Absolutely horrible customer service! Condescending, elitist attitude from the owner.

Happy Hour ends at 6:00, so we rushed in at 5:55 and received no greeting from the waitress. I went up and asked her for menus, and she returned with some, and said "you have three minutes" (until Happy Hour ended). We placed our order at the bar and went over to sit down at a table, and the waitress said we couldn't sit there because it was reserved for dinner. Then another woman came over and told us, again, that we couldn't sit there because the table was reserved for dinner. This woman was the owner, and proceeded to tell us that Happy Hour is limited to the bar area only (which was packed and had no seats left), and that Happy Hour ends at 6:00, and that all of the upstairs tables (I'm guessing there were twelve tables) were unavailable to us. Because Happy Hour was officially over, we were not allowed to sit at any of the tables upstairs. She then suggested we go over to the bar and order a drink, and we responded that we had, in fact, already ordered drinks, and asked again where we should sit. She did not offer any apologies, or attempt to seat us at all.

At that point, we decided that there was no need for us to spend money at a restaurant which clearly did not want or need our business. The owner's condescending, elitist attitude was enough to make me leave immediately, and never go back. I'm guessing she doesn't treat her dinner guests with the same blatant disrespect and saves that only for Happy Hour customers.
