Charming atmosphere and quality cooking make this Castine restaurant a delightful dining experience. Pleasant service and expertly prepared food from local sources received high marks from our visiting European guests while cruising to this historic region of Maine. The wine list seemed to offer something for everyone at surprisingly reasonable prices. This is the place for fine dining in Castine.

Fine dining in the heart of Castine's historic downtown. Order the scallops or the lobster with pasta and you will not be disappointed. Restaurant is in a historic Victorian inn and serves locally sourced ingredients.

There aren't a whole lot of choices in Castine, and we were staying at th Pentagoet, so the restaurant there was the obvious choice. Luckily it wasn't just convenient, it was very tasty.

Exploring Maine's coast by sea means lots of stops for relaxed, casual, or fine dining. Cocktails and dinner at the Pentagoet is a must will cruising northern Penobscot Bay. The bar/library offers books, games, comfortable seating, and an atmosphere worthy of amateur historians who can guess the names of all the world leaders, many of them despots, whose portraits fill the walls. Perfect setting for a Mojito or Negroni served ice-cold and a chat with the barkeep.
We were welcomed to the dining room by Julie, who had taken time to call us personally to confirm reservations, been flexible about our party size, and ensured a delightful meal. The salads were crisp, and the entrees, including braised short ribs, fresh haddock and diver scallops, and lobster linguini perfectly prepared and seasoned. Our friend declared his steak, one of the "best ever". All this set in amid rose-covered walls and the background of soft jazz a la Herbie Mann. August, Maine, and inn, and fine company!

Like clockwork, every 4th of July for the last 15 years, our family has stayed at the Pentagoet Inn in Castine, Maine. And, right after making our reservation to stay at this charming, turn-of-the-century inn on the beautiful coast of Maine, we make our restaurant reservations for as many nights as we are staying at the Inn. We consider the restaurant at the Pentagoet Inn to be one of the highlights of our stay, and one of the best restaurants in Maine. We look forward to some of our favorites: the Lobster Pasta made from lobster just brought in from the bay, the Eggs a la Russe Salad, and the Stonington Crab Cakes made with crab caught that day and brought up to Castine from Stonington, and also the new, seasonal menu additions each year. You can't get fresher seafood anywhere, and honestly, everything we've had during our 15 years of visits to the Pentagoet Inn, has been delicious. It's hard choosing between so many yummy dishes, and it's a hard decision on where to have your meal at the Inn: the "Pub" with it's eclectic collection of photos from around the world, on the porch on a warm summer's night, or in the cozy dining room on a foggy night. But, wherever you decide to have your dinner, it will be excellent! In addition to the great food, the Innkeepers Julie and Jack are warm, gracious, entertaining, and a great resource for ideas on what to do during your stay.
