Old Iron Inn Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Caribou B&B and Inns

Wow! What a wonderful experience we had at our first B&B. The old iron inn was charming, quiet and full of old irons with tons of history. Kate and Kevin were the perfect host and hostess. We were greeted and shown the room to make sure we would like it. We immediately decided to stay and what a great choice we made. The beds were very comfortable, very clean rooms, fluffy towels, and a fridge upstairs for our convenience. We felt right at home and oh the breakfast the next morning was to die for. Kate made fresh peanut butter muffins, eggs, fresh fruit and wonderful coffee. She gave us directions to some back roads with lots of scenery. Very knowledgeable. Kevin even posed for a photograph for us. The only negative...Kate would not let us take her picture. Oh well, we will just need to come back and sneak a picture.
Oh and we found out that Kate irons the sheets! Now that is first class!

It was my first time experience a bed and breakfast and I was a little skeptical but figured I'd take the chance since I was traveling with a colleague. It was well worth the risk. We arrived earlier than expected and yet we were greeted with warm friendly service. The breakfast was absolutely excellent and ooh the freshly baked muffins are to die for. after a long days work, room and the bed calls your weary body to rest and yes, you do awake refreshed. My favorite part however, has to be the freshly baked muffin, hands down!

We stayed at the Old Iron Inn in Caribou during the peak of the Fall colors in northern Maine. What a great place to stay! So much more personal than the "cookie cutter" motel rooms we stayed during the beginning of our trip. We spent 3 nights in the Old Iron Room and enjoyed Kate's wonderful breakfasts of omlets, pancakes, homemade muffins and fresh fruit. Kate is very knowledgeable of the local area functions and events and recommended a variety of activities. The home was neat and clean with large, fluffy towels and our own bathroom. The Inn is filled with antiques, a collection of old irons and an eclectic group of old pictures and unique items that took days to explore. Our hostess, Kate treated us like family and was very accomodating. So much so that we have decided to spend our honeymoon there next year!

It's a very cute house with 2 little apts next to it. I stayed in the downstairs apt which is a 1 bedroom, clean and neat, with a full kitchen and a full bath. I was invited to join the other guests for a breakfast on Sunday and chatted away with very interesting travelers while eating fresh pineapple, fresh blueberry pancakes and bacon. It was nice!!! The wi-fi was a little weak from the apt, although the router was aimed at the apt from the house. It didn't matter, I'm typing this in the dining room of the inn itself. The owner, Kate, is very nice and accommodating, as long as you are here for a nice quiet and respectable time. I had 1 night where the upstairs apt neighbor was rather rowdy and loud at 1am, and she promptly took care of it! The location is great, practically across the street from a nice large grocery store and down the street from the main downtown area where the fire station, police station and movie theater all are, which means that in cases of inclement weather, these roads are cleared right away!

Old Iron Inn is the place to stay if you're ever in Caribou, ME. Funky, cute little place has extensive collections of antique irons, Abraham Lincoln busts, old phonographs, and models of WWII planes hanging from the ceiling in the TV room. Good selection of tea at the tasty breakfast. We do wish our room had been a little warmer during the winter night; the only heat seemed to be coming from downstairs. Otherwise we had a lovely stay there.

We stayed at this lovely b&b during a family reunion. It was a lovely oasis amid all of the hustle and bustle. Easy to find, very clean, cool, quiet rooms, great water pressure, pretty gardens, and the breakfasts were exceptional. The greek omelet was to die for and the fresh fruit with herbs from the garden was delicious. There's lots of antiques to look at and you felt quite at home to come and go as you pleased (which is not always the case with b&bs).

Careful--there is no TV, although you can watch movies in a small room with uncomfortable chairs--but if falling asleep in front of the TV is what you want this is not for you.

All in all, next time I'll bring my laptop (wi-fi is there) and it will be 100% perfect. Who knew there was such a treat in Caribou?
