“A Gem of a Motel!”
Reviewed August 6, 2010

We've stayed in many hotels, inns, and B&Bs in the Kennebunkport area, and this charming motel has now become my favorite! It is very clean, the beds are comfortable, and the linens are soft (I hate scratchy towels and rough sheets!). The owners, John & Deb, treat you like family and are so accommodating; they go above & beyond to make your stay wonderful. The breakfast treats are delicious! The location is great - walking distance to restaurants, the grocery store, and the pier. This feels more like a cozy Bed & Breakfast and we look forward to coming back.

I try to make it to Maine every summer, which is a long drive from Wyoming. But when I do make it to Kennebunkport- there is no better place to stay that the Cape Porpoise Motel. The rooms are beyond comfortable and clean and the servicce is so polite. The only drawback is there is no swimming pool, but hey the ocean is right there! You can't go wrong staying at the Cape Porpoise Motel. I am planning this summers trip and a week at the Cape Porpoise Motel, is definitley on the agenda. DO NOT MISS THIS HOTEL!

My wife and I stayed here for one night in late August. We had read the great reviews on TripAdvisor about this place, so decided to give it a try. However, we were quite disappointed by the motel...

Upon checking in, we dropped off our luggage and turned on the air conditioning because it was very humid because of thunderstorms in the area. We then left for dinner, but when we came back, we found the room smelled horribly. For some reason, the air conditioner had a horrible smell to it. The room was still humid because the bathroom window was wide open (you would think they would have shut it after they cleaned the room), so it was very uncomfortable.

The room overall was very dirty. For the price paid, I would expect pillows without drool stains on the covers. Seeing all the stains on the pillows themselves made it even worse. So we used the pillows we had luckily brought along ourselves. The chairs in the room all had coffee and "other" stains on them. There were burn marks in the chairs and carpet. Some areas of the carpeting were sticky. I would not have wanted to take a UV light to the room, that is for sure!!! It was quite obvious that this specific room was not kept up very well.

The one bright spot was the breakfast they served in the morning. They had a large selection and most of it was very good. Just make sure to ask what is fresh as some of the food may be leftovers from earlier in the week and be very stale.

Maybe we had a bad stay or just a very bad room, but for the price paid, the lack cleanliness of the room was enough for us to be glad that we only spent one night at The Cape Porpoise Motel.

After all the wonderful comments we have received from guests all around the world , I was totally dismayed to receive such a negative review. I knew the day would come when we would not meet someone's expectations but the misguided negativity and slanderous insinuation of this review was unconscionable. I whole heartedly object to manner in which we were depicted. As a registerned nurse who ran an outpatinet surgical service I have a better than average understanding of cleaning and disinfection which is applied to our daily housekeeping practice. I am very disappointed that the issues of concern were not addressed to us directly. It is our aim to make right any concerns, which are far and few between. Perhaps we caught this guest on a bad a day

John and Deb have a wonderful place to stay and relax. The efficiency was super clean and comfortable. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel like friends. The fresh morning coffe and baked goods were a plus. We will return. M&H Haupt, Ormond Beach FL

We were travelling around with friends, and are delighted to have found the Cape Porpoise Motel on the internet and booked it from England..
We made our choice as a result of checking the reviews on Trip Adviser, and were not disappointed!
We stayed for two nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Motel is in a beautiful location, and is delightfully welcoming, spotlessly clean and friendly.
We were warmly greeted on arrival by Debra, shown to our rooms and offered refreshmentts.
The rooms are airy, beautifully decorated and equipped, and spotlessly clean.
Don't expect to lose any weight here! The fare offered for beakfast is all home made, and SCRUMPTIOUS. We loved eating outdoors and meeting fellow guests who were all as enthused as we were.
Debra & John are perfect hosts, and readily gave us advice on what to do and see. In particular they directed us to the Wayfarer Restaurant. It doens't have a license, so you take your own wine or beer. All the locals eat there, and the welcome and food are tremendous.
We would definitely stay at the Cape Porpose Motel again, and recommend it without any reservations whatsoever. We loved our stay there, and were sorry we had to leave.
We travelled around for three weeks, and the Cape Porpoise Motel was the best all the ones we visited!

We had the pleasure of staying here for a week in the efficiency unit and had a wonderful time. Cape Porpoise is a lovely village--beautiful, quaint harbor, outstanding restaurants, and close to both Kennebunkport, as well as Kennebunk, Maine. We like it also as a central location for day trips to Cambridge & Boston, the north shore communities in MA, Cape Neddick and York Beach, ME, as well as north to Freeport, Old Orchard Beach, Portland, etc. John and Debra are wonderful hosts, who look out for your every need - the breakfasts are terrific and this little "hub" is a nice place to meet and chat with other guests. Our stay could not have been more pleasant.

We had a delightful stay in this small motel in Cape Porpoise. The place is very clean and comfortable, and the innkeeper is a very kind and friendly person -- and a great baker! I would highly recommend this place.
