We recently spent a weekend celebrating a birthday at the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth. We live in a neighboring town and wanted a nearby getaway. The Inn was the perfect setting for sunptuous food and luxurious accommodations. We stayed in one of the garden suites which had direct access to the pool, and was just steps away from the boardwalk which leads to Higgins Beach. You can experience a sense of quiet and peacefunessl while just a few minutes away from all the activity that Portland has to offer. The dining room is a must!. We had dinner and Sunday brunch. It was excellent and the service was far above average. The Inn is a perfect place for a special occasion or a retreat from the ordinary.

The Inn by the Sea is an amazing place. I felt so comforable and pampered there that I didn't want to leave! The room was incredibly spacious, the gardens were beautiful and the restaurant and spa definitely did not disappoint. It feels like it is in the country yet only 10 minutes from Portland.

However I think the people were what really made the experience so memorable. Eric was very helpful and friendly as he helped my husband and I with our bags and showed us our room, and Mark recommended lots of great restaurants and activities. We are hoping to come again soon and would recommend the Inn by the Sea to anyone who is visiting Maine!

We stayed at the Inn by the Sea for the first couple of nights of our honeymoon. When we arrived, we were pleased by the clean, elegant decor in the living room. The living room had views from the desk out to the ocean, as well as from the patio outside the room. The bedroom was at the back of the suite and had no water views (it was right by the parking lot), but it felt cozy with the draperies drawn and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very spa-like with a deep soaking tub and separate shower. It also had a dual flush toilet and a large vanity shelf. The one issue was with the bathroom door which would not shut all the way - it had a gap of 1/2 inch or so and would not latch. We alerted staff to the problem and after examining it, they said it would take a few hours and would we like to see other rooms. Ultimately, the other rooms we were shown were not as nice as the room we were in so we opted to stay and the door was fixed the following day. The Inn provided snacks in the room each day and also had a mini fridge for wine and dinner leftovers.

Our patio opened out onto the Inn's back lawn and a short walk took us past the pool and onto the boardwalk to the beach. We were there in mid-October and the trees along the boardwalk were stunning as the foliage turned. The beach was mostly empty, but serene and beautiful, and there were gorgeous sunsets each night. The beach area is a state park and has a very natural feeling.

We also enjoyed traveling into Portland each night to enjoy the delicious restaurants and nightlife. It was about a 10-15 minute drive, with little traffic at that time of day. We also explored Portland during the day and ran into a bit more traffic, but still only a 15-20 minute trip in. It was very nice to stay at a resort where we felt immersed in nature, but were that close to a good-sized city as well.

A family member and I recently stayed in a Garden Suite for 4 nights in October of 2010 with our small well-behaved dog. To say this place is divine would be an understatement. HUGE suite, overlooking the gardens, clean and peaceful. We went to the Inn with the intent of finding a luxury resort that allowed dogs and treats them like the members of the family they are. THANK YOU for all the paws-pitality you showed to us AND our dog.

We ordered the breakfast for room service and it was YUMMY (hint: get the blueberry pancakes). We had a divine dinner delivered to our room for supper. The chef here knows his stuff and highly recommended to eat at Sea Glass!

They even have reasonably priced gourmet dog meals and dog massages! Love it!

We love the access to Crescent Beach, the beauty and cleanliness of it all, the very green atmosphere. Every staff member went above and beyond and made our stay incredible. Nice to have such close access to Freeport and Portland yet feel like you are far removed when staying in Cape Elizabeth.

Lots of nice trails as well!

Can't wait to go back.

Our room was very tight. It was an offset "L" . The closet was tiny with only seven (7) hangers for two (2) people on a six (6) day stay. Only one (1) suitcase rack for two (2) people. Wicker chairs between the fireplace and the bed were too close to the tv to allow for comfortable viewing. The room and bathroom were filthy with quite an accumulation of pink and black mold in the shower, and a very filthy tile floor in the bath. An outlet over the sink did not work, and a maintenance guy could not get it to work. I spent my first hour cleaning up the surfaces of the furniture, lights, phones, etc., so that the room was fit to stay in. The lighting in the roo is insufficient to select ones clothes after dark. The restaurant is very overpriced and very pretentious. We had to make a reservation in order to eat there, but there were only two (2) other tables occupied when we went to dinner. It has a very bland, bistro atmosphere, and is overpriced. I asked for a room change, and was informed they were booked solid. Note to inn mgmt: Don't bother with the usual "You should have informed us, and we would have given you another room", as I did, and you didn't. I will say we had a great view. There is a very small bar as part of the lobby, but nothing else to do in the inn at night. SEveral cards and such indicated the inn is "green", but it seemed very fake; just a ruse to have guests forego clean linens and towels everyday, and poor lighting, etc..

The Inn by the Sea has been recently renovated and is now an elegant seaside hotel. It is located about one half an hour South of the many attractions of Portland, ME. Most of the room look out at the ocean and a sandy beach is about a 5 minute walk. The rooms are well fournished and contain sophisticated toiletries. There is quite a variation in the various accomodations and, unless you need a jacuzzi or a large sitting area, the "traditional" rooms (the least expensive) are very adequate. The hotel is quiet, ie. no nightlife, and has an excellent dining room that includes an outside patio with a view to the ocean. All this come at a price, among the highest along the Maine coast.
