It's my pleasure to post this review, having just returned from a 4 day stay with an elderly parent, husband and toddler. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, starting from prior to our arrival. The front desk manager ( Eva, or Ava?) Went shopping for our groceries for us so that they'd be waiting for our arrival, for no extra fee! Traveling with a toddler meant a full size kitchen was imperative, and we used it every morning for breakfasts and evenings for tea, a snack, etc. We loved the cookies and toasted marshmallows left by housekeeping every night, too. Kitchen had a large fridge, real oven and 4-range stove, dishwasher, great counterspace and breakfast bar, and everything you'd need to cook a meal.
We stayed in room 621, a second floor 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom suite with an unbelievable view of lawn and ocean. Couldn't take our eyes off the view. Kept our toddler busy on the huge deck with indoor/outdoor fireplace while we soaked in the view.
The Sea Glass restaurant was very enjoyable for dinner our first night. It was a tad pricey, but good portion sizes, upscale food and a pretty sophisticated kids menu (not nuggets and pasta! )
The hotel is dog friendly but we had no issues with noise or aggressive dogs. We specifically asked for a room that wasn't dog free, and no problems were had in our section of the building with any barking or the like.
We saw the spa and fitness room but didn't get a chance to use it since we chose to take several road trips. Definitely want to return, to spend some relaxation time there.
Great location for exploring the southern coastal towns but also for the north. We used it as our base to visit Camden state park (90 minute drive), Coastal Maine botanical gardens (Boothbay), and Boothbay Harbor, as a few examples..
Loved, loved our stay. We used Maine Sherpa Babies to rent various baby equipment for our stay (for those that need it, it's a great service.)
Happy travels!

We stayed in the cottages for one night. From the time we arrived we could hear every foot step in the unit above us. Housekeeping was extremely loud for over one hour right above us. We understand the need to do their job, but the inn should invest in some simple sound-proofing of the floors and walls. They offered to move us, but we declined.

Bathroom needs to be overhauled. Black mold in the corners of the bathroom.

Views and grounds beautiful. Beach access very nice.

For the price, we just expected that the rooms would be much nicer.

Inn by the Sea is a lovely little spot for families, couples, and friends.

I visited the inn last week to enjoy a long weekend with my mother for her birthday. We stayed in a Spa Suite which was perfect with its 2-story spacious layout, ocean view, large living area and mini kitchen.

The location was ideal for seeing both Portland (just 15 minutes over the bridge) and Kennebunkport (a 40 minute drive south). The property was well maintained and had private access to a quiet crescent beach with public access. The spa was very nice and we enjoyed multiple treatments.

We visited over the Labor Day weekend so it was moderately busy, but still quiet enough to enjoy an adult vacation.

I could see how the summer months keep the hotel at capacity with families and kids. If you are looking for more privacy or romance, possibly look after school is back in session.

Another plus...they allow dogs and the area is very pet friendly.

Room Tip: Call ahead to specify your needs as photos online were not clear as to what layout was best for girl...

a lovely place with very nice accommodations. on-site restaurant was fine, daily breakfast was good. pool area was very pleasant, too. a little more expensive than we're used to. Portland area was ok, though heat wave during our stay made outdoor browsing tough.

We stayed there for two nights and were very satisfied . Took a jr suite, which was quite spacious. Lovely people trying to make sure the guests have a good stay. Just don't be mislead by the photo on the web site. The hotel is not so grand or as isolated as it appears. Bedrooms face a parking lot and the hotel is on a main road. But very expensive all things considered.

Dear rstern,
Thank you for your recent review of Inn by the Sea on TripAdvisor. We are very happy to read that you were satisfied with your stay but concerned in regards to your comments in regards to our accommodations and physical location. It is true that some of the bedrooms in our suite accommodations overlook our parking area however; these units are also nicely complimented by our stunning Ocean and Garden views on the opposite end of the same accommodations in kind. We appreciate you taking the time to share and do hope you return to the southern coast of Maine in the future. Richard Carroll, Director of Sales & Marketing

We spent 2 nights at the inn last week & had a fantastic time. The property is situated on a hill overlooking the ocean & is pet friendly. The short walk to the beach is enjoyable & there is a nature preserve in between the property & beach, so beautiful vegetation & birds chirping away. I disagree with some of the reviews complaining about the kids & dogs- everyone was in control & behaving properly. We are a childless couple & felt the inn did a good job at creating a happy medium for both couples & families.

Initially, I had booked a room in different section of the inn, but later changed due to negative tripadvisor reviews. They didn't deny the rooms were outdated when I asked & explained to me property in the process of a 3 year renovation. I was glad they were honest, however, they didn't warn me at the original booking which would have been nice rather than reading it off tripadvisor. I guess this is one of the great virtues of tripadvisor. Ultimately, we really enjoyed our ocean suite- comfortable bed, spacious, large soaking tub, fireplace, kitchen & patio.

We had dinner both nights at the inn's restaurant & would highly recommend. The bartender is great if you enjoy mixed cocktails. We ordered breakfast to the room & found service to be prompt. I would also recommend the spa as our couples massage was one of the high points of the trip.

My big complaint is some of the people at the front desk are inexperienced. Upon check-in when I asked the girl to re-confirm dinner reservation time which I had made the prior week, I was informed no reservation. Her solution was dinner at 5 or 8:30 or a some corn pre-fix on the lawn. When I told the her I did this via email- she asked to see the email. I didn't have it on blackberry & would've had to log on to a computer to fwd. The entire reason why I did everything in advance was so that I didn't have to turn on a computer on my vacation. I asked to speak to a manager, who never reached out, but when I called the front desk spoke to Mory, who remedied the issue in 2 minutes flat- a true professional. So, my suggestion to management would be to give some of their staff a lesson in customer service or to have them differ to more experienced staff/manager on duty.
