My husband and I spent 4 nights at Inn By The Sea. We could not have been more pleased with our accommodations. The dining is 5 star in a relaxed atmosphere. I think every room has a great view of the gardens and ocean. I enjoyed my Spa treatment also. We drove around the coast while we were there and we didn't see any lodging that rivaled Inn By The Sea. The hotel is not located in a congested setting, like many we saw Kennebunkport.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor, over the lobby. It had a great view of the ocean and was extremely quie...

We celebrated our 20th anniversary with a getaway to Maine and had a wonderful experience at the Inn by the Sea! One of our dogs is older so we opted for the garden suite at the recommendation of Mike who booked our reservation, he was extremely helpful. From the time we arrived with our two Labrador Retrievers until we checked out everything was perfect! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The room had no signs of pet hair or odors when we arrived, which is not always the case in pet friendly hotels~where you are usually given the less desirable rooms.
The suite was perfect~immaculate, more than comfortable with a lovely view of the gardens and ocean. Most dog friendly places tolerate pets but at the Inn they actually embrace the idea of having the guests bring their pets. The welcome treats for both canine and owners was a nice touch! The Inn supplied dog bowls, blankets and towels.
We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent and also enjoyed going into Portland. The spa was lovely and I had a great deep tissue massage! I only wish we had more time....
We look forward to a return trip!

Though I live less than an hour away from this property and travel far too often for work, my wife and I always default to the Inn by the Sea for long weekend getaways without the kids. We have stayed here at least a dozen times.

Situated within minutes of downtown Portland, the hotel is situated in Cape Elizabeth right on the water. From the moment you enter the front doors, the ambiance is warm, inviting and professional. The front desk staff are extremely personable and treat us like we're old friends.

The rooms are nothing short of spectacular. Spacious, well designed and comfortable. The welcome treats are always a nice touch and though always promised, it DOES feel like a home away from home.

The bar is small, but cozy and encourages long conversations next to the fireplace. The bartenders are attentive and generous with their pours, though some aren't as strong with their wine knowledge as other similar hotels. The restaurant is just okay. Though I've eaten there many times, I've never walked away feeling wowed. That said, the reason why we often stay at Inn by the Sea is its (relative) location to Duckfat and Fore St in downtown Portland.

The spa facilities are elegant and the services fairly priced. While not the best spa services I've ever received, they rate in the upper half.

Of note is that it is a pet friendly facility.

Overall, a great place to stay. Highly recommended.

We stayed two nights in a loft room – sitting and kitchen area downstairs, and bedroom and bath in the loft. We have stayed in many two levels rooms and often the stairway is narrow, and seems to have been an afterthought. Not so here, there is a wide staircase leading to loft, giving the room a homier feel. It was a wonderful room, spacious with floor to ceiling windows (with shades that you raise and lower electronically) looking out over the pool, lawn and ocean.
The attention to detail is wonderful. Towels and beach chairs are offered right by entrance to boardwalk leading to the beach, ice water and iced tea are available free at the pool, balcony has comfortable rattan chairs with cushions and a small table, and a large green space provides area to play lawn games or just have kids run around. Cookies are offered each evening.
The beach is part of Crescent Beach, which is public, but if you go before 10 or 11am you just about have the beach to yourself. If you turn right onto the beach from boardwalk, and walk to the rocks, there is a path that leads up the hill through the vegetation toward the island – stunning views and beautiful wildflowers abound!
Back to the room. The tile floor in the bathroom had radiant heat which you control via thermostat, most welcome on cool mornings and evenings; the shower stall (separate from the large bathtub) is huge and the toilet is off the bathroom with its own door; and bathrobes and slippers are provided. The outlets are well located throughout the room, which was appreciated as we had four separate phones/nook/ laptop that needed charging. The wifi worked perfectly, and was super simple to access. The kitchen area has a small refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker, and granite island with two stools. Definitely not for cooking a meal, but very handy for keeping water and beverages cold, and heating up water for tea.
Only a few very minor issues (and more than outweighed by all the positives). The closet is very small. We were here on business, so we had quite a few pieces of clothing that needed to be hung up. There is plenty of drawer storage, so this would not be a problem for most guests. The couch seemed a little tired, and was not very comfortable, probably time for this to be replaced. There are comfy chairs though.
Would very highly recommend - wonderful room, beautiful views, great service, and incredible setting with easy access to beach. Oh, and there is a great little restaurant called The Good Table, only about a mile down the road, with terrific food and open for lunch and dinner.

We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with our two teenage daughters and their friends. The accommodations were perfect - we stayed in a loft cottage. There was so much space! The girls felt like they had their own apartment. Between the welcome treats, homemade cookies every evening, nightly fire pit with s'mores (fun and got everyone into the "its almost summer" spirit) our kids were well taken care of! Everyone really enjoyed the beach, pool and games on the lawn. Packed so much into our stay and still managed to get into Portland several times, as well as a ferry ride over to Peaks Island for bike riding! Avoid Peaks Island on Sundays (Reggae Concert brings out the not so best - not very family friendly ambience), but we managed to make do - it is a beautiful island! Loved Inn by the Sea - hope to return soon!

We went up to the Inn by the Sea for a few nights after our wedding...sort of a mini-honeymoon. Could not have been any more perfect for what we were looking for. It seemed to be a quiet place (being weekday just after Memoprial Day weekend) but we loved that. All the employees were very kind and offered us assistance any time we needed. I give 4 .9 out of 5 stars overall. Wish it was a little closer to the beach, but the walk down was nice.

Rooms were great, seemed very updated with all the detail. We stayed in a 1st floor Garden Suite which walked right out to the pool area. This would be a great room if we had kids to run around out back in the grass. We will definitely be coming back there in the future.

Restaurant was very good. Food was reasonably priced and plenty to eat. Again, it wasn't that busy so the service was great. Sit out on the patio if you get the chance.

Spa is a nice scenery and well set up. Both my wife and I got massages which were very good, but not great (4 out of 5). Nothing really bad to say about it, but it just seemed a little average for what we've experienced in the past. If you stay at the Inn, I would still highly recommend getting a massage.

Enjoy!

The Inn has large rooms with a living area, large bathroom with seperate tub and shower, and a large bedroom. The downside is the bedroom is next to the parking lot, so kind of noisy. Everyone gets a patio or deck off their room which overlooks the grounds. There were dogs everywhere since they allow large and small. We had lots of noise from upstairs room since soundproofing is not very good. Staff is helpful and friendly. The restaurant is very good as well. You cannot walk to anything from the Inn, so it is a little inconvenient. Overall, I enjoyed the stay and would stay here again.

Room Tip: If you don't want to listen to the upstairs neighbors clomp around the room, stay in the loft ro...
