We spent five night at the Inn by the Sea in the "off season" as a winter get-away trip. The hotel overlooks a small cove of the Atlantic Ocean and provides a nice place to relax. Cape Elizabeth has a few small restaurants nearby but is only a 10-15 minute drive to South Portland or Portland. The restaurant provides great meals and the cozy bar has a fireplace and was open every evening.

Room Tip: Spa rooms provide spacious accomodations and have great views of the bay.

My wife took me here to celebrate a big birthday, and a good choice it was. The inn itself is elegant. Apparently it was completely renovated four years ago, but it looked entirely brand-new to us. The architectural details throughout are outstanding. The entry, lobby and lounge are all in one connected space, with a beautiful direct ocean view through spacious glass and a cozy fire burning in a handsome fire place. And a fully decorated Christmas tree, it being December 11th. Our two- story room was almost startlingly large. The first floor was generous by normal standards, but upstairs there was a balconied bedroom and modern marble and glass bathroom, with a large Jacuzzi tub and a walk-in shower (with marble bench) big enough for six or so but perfect for our romantic twosome. The dining room gets top marks too, with a sophisticated Maine-based menu expertly executed and presented. Part of my treat was a 75-minute massage, which was as good as any I've had and given in a spa equal to any I've experienced. So for our purposes everything was perfect. Of course the outdoor pool was closed, and it was too chilly even to visit Crescent Beach, which although not accessible from the Inn property is nearby. But if in a warmer season you want more resort-style facilities you might compare Sebasco Harbor Resort in Casco Bay, which offers golf, boating trips and tennis as well as a pool and modern spa, but overall in a less elegant style.

Room Tip: Go for a two-storied balconied room in the Spa Wing (I think it's called).

Signed up for one of those great TravelZoo promos - was not disappointed. Comfortable, clean, nice on the eyes this inn is!! Really comfortable beds, clean and spacious bathroom, water views, balcony - going back when things warm up a bit in May or June and get some nice photos from that balcony. Staff very nice and helpful - friendly and accommodating for sure. Highly recommend!

My husband and I have been here a few times. It's such a great place. Only 2 hours from Boston it makes for a great weekend getaway. Close to the beach, hiking, and the charms of Portland.
The staff are very welcoming, accommodating, and helpful. Seaglass is a great place to eat. Great views. And we love that it is LEED certified, cares about the environment and is a good green citizen!

We stayed here on a deal from Travelzoo, which can always go either way but we had a great time! We brought our Golden Retriever and stayed in a corner room, which was great access for the beach and potty time. All the staff was very friendly, loved the turn down service and having a cozy glass of wine by the fire at the bar, accompanied by our pup! THe Sea Glass restaurant was VERY good, a little pricey but the food was excellent. I almost hesitate posting this, because I don't want to share our secret!

We recently stayed at the Inn By the Sea and were instantly impressed with the warmth and knowledge displayed by each and every person on staff. The room was perfect, the restaurant outstanding and we will definitely be returning with the rest of our family including our dog! Never have we seen such amazing care given to our canine friends-they even have a doggie menu! The ocean views were magnificent and all within minutes of fabulous Portland! Kudos to everyone on staff and thanks for making our getaway so special.

My wife stayed at the Inn last wek for one night. It was evident immediately that the staff was very well trained, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms, in our case one of the cottages was very nice nice comfortable. It is off season, but we could imagine the great experiences vacationers had staying at the Inn during the warmer months. Breakfast buffet was warm and delicious. Nothing but good things here. We knew going to the Inn, that the reputation was very good, so I put it to the test, and it met all my expectations.
