This was by far the most elegent and romantic bed and breakfast we have ever visited. The decor of the Inn was warm, comfortable and inviting. Our room was in the Carriage House which had a lovely patio and rock garden and overlooked the Celtic Gardens in the back of the main Inn. So private, peaceful and relaxing.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub and took advantage of the wonderful bath salts that our hostess provided. And the luxurious bath robes --- AHHH! Our four-poster bed was topped by a thick feather mattress and we slept like logs. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra day!
Breakfast was served on the back porch. Breakfast Burritos with homemade mango salsa. Delicious! Our second day started with a breakfast of Lime Yoghurt and fruit followed with Belgian Waffles with Maple Pecan topping.
Our hostess, Maryanne Shanahan, was friendly, caring, and a very interesting person to talk to. She was able to give us tips on where to eat in Camden and where to stay as we moved up the cost of Maine.
My husband and I would love to go back again sometime.

This was our first time in Camden although we had been to southern Maine many times. We picked the Hawthorn Inn based on reviews from TripAdvisor. We stayed in Cabriolet which was described as a suite. The room was in the back of the Carriage House which is next to the main Inn. Although it was a suite, it was the size of one large room. The room was very clean and the service was very good.

The innkeeper and her sister were very friendly and helpful with recommendations on where to eat and sights to see. Breakfast and afternoon tea was included. Breakfast was inside the first day and on the outside deck the second day. The breakfast is very well prepared and different each day, but there are no choices. The afternoon tea was just cookies and tea.

The Camden area has much to see. If the weather is clear a trip to the top of Mt. Battie should not be missed. The coast of Maine is such a fantastic scenic area. There is too much to see in only a few days. We will be going back again.

Planned a last minute trip to Camden and picked the Hawthorn based on all the glowing "excellent" reviews on this site. I was a little hesitant that there was something fishy with all those glowing reviews, but after having stayed there, I realized that there just aren't that many negative things to say. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was at the back of the Inn and well away from the noise of Route 1. The room was clean, well appointed, and pretty good size. The only thing you could say is that the Inn is a tad expensive, but given the market for room in Camden, it's probably right at the going rate.

Maryanne, the owner, was very nice, meets every guest and makes an attempt to learn everyones name. A great breakfast was served on the porch. A lot of other Inn in Camden seem to get more publicity, and I am sure they are nice too, but the Hawthorn is much closer to the town of Camden, and therefore better for walking.

The Hawthorn Inn is so inviting that it is hard to leave it to enjoy the town of Camden and all the nearby attractions. To walk in the door is to feel welcome and at home. The inn and its surrounding lawn and garden radiate a sense of peace and tranquility. Maryanne is a superb and gracious hostess. Her special touch is visible throughout the public rooms and the private areas, always with the comfort and ease of the guest in mind. There were vases of fresh flowers everywhere and everything is spotless. My bed was inviting and comfortable for napping, sleeping, or reading. It opened onto a patio where I was able to read, work, or dream. Breakfast to die for; it was a delight and a revelation everyday: creative, healthy, beautifully presented, and delicious. No place that I have stayed in amy years of travel can compare to the excellence evidenced everywhere. I hope to retun many times and highly recommend it to anyone who looks for the finest.

Upon arrival we were warmly received by Maryanne and her gracious staff - it was like a homecoming for family members. As we were guided to our room we embraced the lovely staircase and its ambiance which enabled us to be prepared for a most inviting, beautiful room - The Regency, with its great touch of romance with the flowers, green walls and the bath suite with a claw-foot tub for a relaxing bath. After a wonder night's rest, we were greeted by Maryanne and her dog, Tori and waiting for the early risers one could have an early morning coffee or tea before a most wonderful, healthy but hardy breakfast was served by Maryanne and her staff. Breakfast on the porch deck overlooking the lovely garden is a great way to start one's day - great view, great food and great conversation with other guest and our hostess, Maryanne. This was our first visit to both Camden and the Hawthorn Inn but it will not be our last - my brother and his wife were with us on this trip and they, too, echo our overwhelming love of The Hawthorn Inn and Maryanne Shanahan.

We stayed in the Regency room which has a wonderful en-suite "victorian" bathroom.
We were made to feel most welcome and looked forward to the delicious breakfast each day. This was our last stop on a month long tour of the New England states and it proved to be a most relaxing end to a tiring but enjoyable holiday.

Maryanne is a great host and marvellous chef - what delicious breakfasts on the deck overlooking the pretty gardens. The Inn is lovely and so close to the centre of Camden - there's a hundred reasons to stay there! We would recommend it to everyone and will definitely return.
