“Delicious food and fantastic service”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

We only spent one night at Hartstone on our trip around New England, but it was a memorable and enjoyable stay. We were generously upgraded to a suite when we arrived, and the room was impecabbly clean and well appointed. It was a quiet and private room with an external entrance, and had a cosy living room area heated by a flame effect fire. The bathroom had a large jacuzzi bath and the bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the useful folder of information about the local area, and Camden was a lovely town and a great spot to do the short (but steep!) hike up to the top of Mt Battie with impressive views over the town and harbour. We opted for an evening meal in the Inn and I had the equisite 6 course tasting menu - highly recommended. The staff were very genuine, friendly and knowledgeable, and made us feel welcome and at ease throughout. The breakfast was also outstanding and we were sad to move on the next morning - wish we could have stayed longer.

The accommodations at the Hartstone were very comfortable and lucious. The decor made me feel like I was in an art gallery. The service was impeccable and I hope to make it back to the Hartstone someday. I loved it here!

Very nice Bed and Breakfast Inn with wonderful walking location. All amenities were available and great bed.
It was not personal with that kind of added touch. Like a hotel in a way. Coffee in the morning delivered by another server. Nothing in the late afternoon unless purchased. Breakfast was lovely. No doubt about that. We had a lovely dinner at the Inn. That is a must!!!

We spent five nights at the Hartstone Inn and could not have been happier. Mary Jo and Michael were very welcoming as was the entire staff. Mary Jo always checked to see that we had a nice day planned. We received excellent recommendations like the windjammer Surprise and Windsor Chairmakers.

We stayed in the Florence Room which is in the main building right off the lobby area. It is a corner room with three large windows that open. The room is adequate size with two comfortable chairs. The bathroom is small but well appointed. The room is on the main street, but we had no problem with street noise. The room had a notebook with a wealth of information, including recommended self-guided tours and places to eat.

Speaking of places to eat, the two course gourmet breakfasts were fantastic. Creative and delicious, not your standard breakfast buffet. Be sure to reserve dinner for one or more nights. This is not only a great inn, it is the best place for dinner in town. Finally, a cocktail hour with an excellent cocktail and hors d'oeuvres for $5 each. Good opportunity to chat with nice people.

Manor suite was perfect and quiet and the dinner was the best meal in Maine. The suites are quite large and feel like you're staying in an apartment rather than a standard large hotel room. Service and quality was that of a five star hotel. Would definitely recommend the Hartstone to any couple looking for charm, romance and great service. Excellent wine list!

Seeing the other reviews, there is not much more to add. This is a beautiful inn, with the most comfortable bed we slept in our entire trip. The room was clean, all amenities were provided. I have never seen more attention to detail or decor. We stayed in the Hideaway, which is located on a quiet street one block over from the Hartstone, and enjoyed a beautiful dinner at the Hartstone. Two disappointments regarding our food experience: 1) Although I mentioned (twice) that our dinner would be a birthday celebration for my husband, and was told "Oh, we'll make a note of that!", his birthday was completely overlooked at dinner. A special dessert, or even a candle in the dessert he ordered would have made it special. 2) Our breakfast egg entree was COLD. We asked if the food was brought over from the Hartstone and were told that, yes it was. Perhaps there could be a better way to keep food warm, especially since this inn is celebrated for their food.

Room Tip: Note that in the Hideaway the stairs a narrow and steep.

We spent a wonderful overnight including dinner and breakfast a few weeks ago. We stayed there before a few times and again it was just as excellent as we remembered. Our reception by
their staff was warm and informative. And then her follow-up was much appreciated to insure we were well situated. We met a lovely couple from Washington DC and enjoyed their company for breakfast. That is the way The Hartstone Inn is with warm friendly guests, staff, and a comfortable room. We will come back again.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely. Book early
