“An Outstanding B & B in Lovely Camden”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

Certainly one of the best, if not the very best, B & B we've stayed in is the Camden Windward House. This beautiful historic house has been restored with every modern convenience. Although it is located on busy US 1, it is nestled on lovely grounds just a few blocks from the tourist crowds that swell into picturesque Camden. You'll get a great nights sleep here. The husband-wife owners provide an outstanding breakfast each morning, and they couldn't be friendler or more helpful, including making dinner reservations for you. Our room was the Chart Room Suite 5 with canopy bed, small tv and French doors leading to a private deck, and the suite included a sitting room with fireplace, AC, large tv/vcr/dvd, library with books and dvds, and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub/shower combination.

We arrived at the Camden Windward House, but overlooked the doorbell, so walked on in to find the innkeeper. We met Kristi, who showed us to our room on the second floor with a private balcony overlooking the backyard garden. The home seems in good condition for being built in the 1800's. Kristi was very good at engaging the guests at breakfast, encouraging conversation and making suggestions of great places to visit. She even posted updates in the common area regarding the 4th of July celebration; very helpful when the fireworks were postponed due to the heavy fog. The location was ideal for walking to downtown and visiting the shops and restaurants. Mostly, we thank Kristi and Jesse for providing us with a blanket to use for picnics, and for preparing our incredible lobster meal, served in the backyard garden. The room was quite comfortable and the breakfasts were just yummy!

Lovely bed and breakfast in a great spot hardly any walk away from the town. Great hosts and lovely people who did their job well but it didn't feel as though they were naturals. Really couldn't fault the house but it lacked a welcoming warm feel. Not sure how to put my finger on it - a very long set of rules for what constituted smoking which they forbade on any part of their property and they owned it so certainly their right, but the narrative and signs made me feel uncomfortable. Being told that they locked the door at 9.30 and told they felt this was late enough and then when asking for cereal at breakfast being reminded that you get fruit and feeling I was asking to eat too much.

Breakfast was nice although it would have been good to help oneself to more than tea or coffee - juice on tap would have been good too if you didn't want a hot drink whilst waiting to be served.

Thank you for your review. I appreciate your kind words about our great location and good breakfast. I remember when you ordered breakfast, I am sorry I may have given you an odd feeling. When you only ordered cereal, I was confused. Our guests from the UK always enjoy cereal in addition to several entree options, poached eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, but you only ordered the cereal. I thought you were going to order more, and when you didn't my motherly side was concerned that you would not have enough to eat. We always say: Order as much or as little as you like, it is complimentary, no extra fee for more food. You are correct, we do not allow smoking. You may smoke in the parking if you like. I am not sure what non-smoking narratives you are writing about. We lock the front door by rt 1 between 9:30 - 10:00pm, but all guests do have a key and there is a doorbell, if you forget your key. Someone is always home to let you in. Please try us again, I think the unwelcoming feeling you may of had were cultural differences. We really are welcoming and have been welcoming people to Windward House for 7 years now.

We stayed here for 2 nights, July 3rd and 4th. Could not have been better. Seriously, there is not one thing about this B&B that could be any better. Excellent pricing, clean rooms with very comfortable bed/bedding, beautiful 1800s building and very nicely furnished. High quality all the way around. The location could not have been better, just a couple minutes walk from the main streets with all the cute shops and restaurants, as well as the beautiful bay. The breakfast was amazing. Truly the best food I've ever had at a B&B. Everything was cooked with fresh and all natural ingredients. They have a great menu and you can choose from several great entrees and sides, as well as drinks. Also, seating is at individual tables in the main dining room, so you can meet other couples if you choose, but still have your own private table. The owners are the nicest, friendliest people. Very helpful making recommendations on what to do and where to eat. I can't say enough about this B&B.

Our stay at Windward House B & B was lovely. We stayed on the top floor in the Crow's Nest and loved it--quiet, pretty, cozy, extremely clean. So many thoughtful touches, like a small pair of scissors in the bathroom and a flashlight, just in case. We really appreciated Kristi and Jesse's emphasis on organic local foods for breakfast (which included fabulous choices such as bananas sautéed in butter and rum served over thick French toast with local maple syrup, or orange yogurt pancakes, and always with a bowl of fresh fruit). Kristi even arranged to have laundry done for us, and provided us with plastic bags to hold our muddy shoes. Wonderful service, wonderful family values expressed throughout, plus thoughtfulness for the environment.

My wife and I spent two days in June in Camden and stayed at the Camden Windward House. We booked it after reading the reviews on tripadvisor and we couldn't have made a better choice. The B&B is located just far enough away from the main street of Camden to make it a quiet place to stay while being only a five minute walk to all the great shops and restaurants in town. There is off street parking so if you choose not to leave town during your stay, you never have to move you car. The room we stayed in (The Chart Room) is actually a suite with a large bedroom complete with a King bed and a large sitting room with a sofa, tv and fridge. We had a private deck off the bedroom where we sat and enjoyed the breeze and sipped our wine. The private bathroom was also quite large and modern.
If you like breakfasts, you will love the Windward House. Jesse prepares amazing breakfasts and you can order as much as you like. You won't need to eat lunch although you may want to eat a light lunch just so you can try one of the many fine dining places in Camden.
Kristi is a wonderful hostess and is a fountain of local knowledge. She offered many suggestions as to what to visit and we were not disappointed in any of her suggestions.
Jesse and Kristi are both super people who treat you like family.
Camden is a must place to visit if you are planning a trip to Maine and The Camden Windward House is definitely the place to stay.

Recently stayed at the Camden Windward House. We stayed in the quarterdeck suite which was large and airy and very clean. The bed in the room was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

We had a nice relaxing time there and the shops and restaurants are all within a few minutes walk.

Breakfasts were nice and Krisiti was very helpful with suggestions for things to do in the area.

All in all a really nice stay.

Would highly recommend.
