Right next door to the restaurant Fresh, is the Fresh Bakery & Market. Two different places.
The bakery is wonderful. Maine cottage decor, cheerful, clean with the aromas of fresh-baked bread and pastries. There is a large variety of breads. Some are baked daily, other types are baked only on certain days of the week. Check out the bread menu on the web site link provided by them. The breads are dense, some loaded with nuts, cranberries, etc., all very flavorful and different.
The lunch menu is not extensive, mostly sandwiches, but they also offer soup and pizza that can be bought by the slice. There is enough variety that everyone will find something they like. Their sandwiches are delicious with all fresh ingredients on their own fresh-baked bread, all living up to their name. Never had a bad pastry there, all very decadent and sinful and worth the calories. Have not tried the pizza yet, so cannot comment on it.
Coffee is delicious, you choose your own out of thermal carafes, so you can mix and blend to your heart's desire.
The only downside is that it's small and when busy, it gets congested and customers get confused as it's hard to tell if people are in line to order or just looking. It is also pricey. For the Camden area, the prices are on par with other similar offerings, but keep in mind you do get very high quality food here. There are a few tables to sit at inside, but when busy it can be loud, so take your goodies and go sit on a bench along the water and enjoy the scenes.
Another great feature is the hours. From their website: Sunday - Thursday: 7am - 8pm; Saturday & Sunday: 7am - 9pm. You can run in before work and grab a coffee and scone, or stop in on a nice night for a treat and then a stroll along the water to burn of the calories from the piece of cheesecake you just woofed down.
