“Great stay- we will be back”
Reviewed September 20, 2010

Just back from the Grand Harbor, and we are already planning a return trip. I am not sure what hotel the other reviewers stayed in, but I can't believe it was the same one. I am a tough critic (30-60 hotel nights a year) and I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and the experience. The hotel is right on the harbor, and our balcony had a view of the entire harbor. Moreover, the staff was super friendly (Gary was great) and full of insight into the town and surrounding area. The room itself was quite comfortable (as well as new and clean), with a large nice bathroom. As to noise, I slept like a rock and didn't hear others in the hotel or the street. All in all, a great stay. Can't wait to return!

We spent a week exploring the coast from Portland to Bar Harbor, and stayed at several different types of lodging. This was by far the most elegant. My wie,, who travels for a living, was impressed, and that says a lot.
We had a bayview room, mostly of the restaurant parking lots, but we could still feel the ambience of the bay, and had a good sleep, and a great continental breakfast.
We did not bring it up, but an addition of a few gluten-free products for our breakfast wiould have been nice.

The rooms were very nice inside and the service was very good however the term water view can be very misleading. We had to angle our chairs on the balcony to get a glimpse of the water. The majority of our view was of the parking lot and restaurants next to our hotel. It was also very noisy at night with drunks coming out of the restaurants late into the night. There are really only two or three rooms in the hotel that actually have an unobstructed view of the harbor. If you pay the full price for a waterview room (approx $360) then you are being ripped off. We got a special deal that made the price more bearable. The rooms have all the amenities you would expect for the price (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, 2 TVs and DVD Player). I would visit again if another special rate was offered but never at full price.

Highly disappointing and a far cry from the self proclaimed luxury waterfront experience. First of all only a few rooms are indeed waterfront, all other rooms are looking over large parking decks including a public restroom. So not at all as nice as the website like you to believe. The room was new, but inexpensive and boring decorated. A couple of nice technological gadgets but overall the room reminded me of an inexpensive Hampton Inn. The beds were terrible, the linens felt cheap and the finishing’s desirable. The inn has no facilities whatsoever, not even a lounge to relax or a breakfast room. A very simple breakfast (again Hampton Inn) was served to our room, clearly not something you would expect in a high-end hotel. The worst part is the noise! The walls are paper-thin and you can literally overhear entire conversations of your neighbors. Also the street noise was disturbing, including yelling people until 3 o’clock in the morning, as the inn is located in between a couple of busy pubs. Last but not least the inn is located above an inexpensive and tacky lobster pond type restaurant, so go figure. The staff was friendly but not very experienced and only because we got a huge discount this inn deserves 2 stars; otherwise it would have been one star only. In conclusion, if you are looking for pampering and luxury avoid this place and if you do decide staying here than make sure you negotiate a large discount (and they do give large discounts!) like we did, as it is not worth the money!

I am very sorry that your recent stay with us at the Grand Harbor Inn was a “highly disappointing” one. We take constructive feedback very seriously and to be honest were quite surprised and saddened to hear about the details of your stay. All of our staff take great pride and ownership in our property and were personally affected by your unpleasant experience.

We describe the Inn as a luxury waterfront boutique property located in the heart of Camden with unbeatable views of the harbor, Penobscot Bay and surrounding mountains. It is well-known that Camden is a very intimate town, so one of the trade-offs for the exceptional water views that we offer, you will also find yourself surrounded with the excitement and activities of the nearby boutique shops and gourmet restaurants. This can certainly add to the general noise of the area during the day, especially if your balcony door is open, but the location, we feel, cannot be beat. The five restaurants that are closest to our Inn all stop serving by either 9pm or 10pm, none of which are pubs. There use to be a pub next door to our property called Gilberts, but they went out of business over a year ago prior to our Inn opening, and there are no plans to re-open that space as a pub in the future. There is still an old sign hanging over their entrance that you may be referencing.

There are very few properties in the area where you can park your car immediately adjacent to the property and walk to every destination that Camden has to offer, and we are proud to be one of these properties. All of our guestrooms except for one, which we advertise as such, are described as either waterfront or water view. We feel that the description of our rooms is very fair and accurate as to the type of view you have from the balcony. There certainly are parking areas and buildings on either side of our Inn, but all of our rooms are on the second floor and guests are able to experience their view unobstructed by vehicles or people milling about below.

As for our beds and linens, each room features a Simmons Beautyrest Felicity II Pillow Top Mattress, which is one of the highest rated hospitality mattresses available. All of our pillows and linens are from Cuddledown of Maine. The sheets and blankets we use are their luxury hotel series, 400-thread count Sateen, 100% combed cotton, certified eco-friendly. The pillows are both their medium fill feather and goose down and firm fill synthetic damask. We are thankful that just about every guest upon check-out comments on how great the beds were and several have asked where they could purchase the sheets and pillows from. We are sorry that your sleeping experience was “terrible” and that the linens felt “cheap”, and certainly plan to pass your comments onto our reps for Simmons and Cuddledown, as they are always very interested in receiving feedback, both positive and negative.

Your final comment relating to the value of your stay is also upsetting to us. We are sorry that you feel compelled to suggest to future guests that they “negotiate a deep discount”.
We feel that our rate structure is very competitive with the local market considering the amenities and services offered with your stay. If a guest has a legitimate issue with their stay we will certainly respond immediately and appropriately to fix the problem. If adjusting their room rate seems necessary, then that is what we will do.

Again, please accept our apology. We try very hard to delight every guest to the best of our ability, and I am sorry that the location and the guest room experience did not meet your expectations.

Hotel just opened this summer, and is quite small and quiet in spite of its location on the waterfront. Staff is new, young, very friendly and helpful. If you like waterfront New England, free great breakfasts delivered to your room, strong coffee, waterfront views and at least 6 outstanding seafood restaurants within a block, this place is for you!

They have only been open for a couple of months but the staff also works at the sister property, the Lord Camden Inn, and are pleasant, helpful and courteous. Our suite was about 500 sq. feet and you have views of the harbor and the windjammers from the bed, living room and balcony. Two large flat screens, GREAT shower with 8 shower heads, a keurig coffee machine, mini-fridge and microwave make this a great place to see Camden and the surrounding coastal towns from.

For the first time since the kids were born (10+ years) my wife and I found ourselves with a few "days off" in July and Room #1 was just what the Dr. ordered!

A ample sized suite..king bed..double sided glass fireplace, sitting area, 2 40" hdtv's, fancy shower and deep jacuzzi..the proverbial "walls of glass" that overlook the harbor - but the best feature is the porch that faces directly out the harbor...the view and setting is stunning.....RIGHT ON THE DOCK.

Breakfast on that porch is heaven!

It is brand new so as we expected everything is super clean...everything works. The furnishings and bedding and amenities are all high quality - think wealthy friends summer house.

Being right on the dock with a restaurant below I was concerned about late pm and early am noise, that concern was unfounded...remember this is Camden, not Jersey Shore.

Love the quiet check in - simple desk, staffed with friendly helpful people.

As someone else said "there aren't a bunch of staff doting over you the entire time, they simply let you do your thing and stay out of your way- yet they will do anything you need. OUTSTANDING all around." - We wholeheartedly agree..highly recommended!
