“Delicious Club Sandwich, Awful Atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012 via mobile

My extended family and I all love going here for one thing: the chicken club sandwich. It's old fashioned with toasted bread, sliced roasted chicken breast ( not deli lunch meat), and crispy bacon. I'm not sure about the rest of their food, but I do know one thing: the decor in this place is absolutely abysmal. The restaurant features one of the best views in town, but the owners have totally ruined it with granny style colors, woodwork, and carpet. Might as well be in a Piccadilly Cafeteria. I've always thought this place had such potential--the owners need to hire a decorator and change the decor to that of an atmospheric English or Irish pub. It could be fantastic!

Thank you for your comments on our chicken club sandwich
that you enjoyed because of its’ real chicken . We try to bring that
freshly prepared from scratch quality to all of our menu items. I
think that the décor of an Irish Pub is an excellent idea for a
restaurant. Unfortunately that style is not conducive to our
situation. We are located in a prime location overlooking one of Maine’s
most beautiful harbors. To take advantage of that we have “window
walls” on three sides of our main and upstairs dining rooms. This
provides two of the very best views of any restaurant dining rooms in
Maine. We do not decorate around these windows so as not to obstruct
this magnificent view. That only leaves us one wall to decorate. We
have opted to decorate that wall with pictures from the famous movie
“Peyton Place” that was filmed in Camden in 1957. Our restaurant
was used in that movie and it is of interest to lots of our customers. We
also display on that wall pictures of Camden from over one hundred
and fifty years ago to show how the town looked then as opposed to now.
Our décor is Camden harbor. An Irish pub is nice, it just
doesn’t fit with our location. Thank you again for your kind words
about your dining experience and for being a repeat customer. I
hope you continue to visit us the next time you are in Camden and
sample some of our other menu items. Sincerely Paul Prescott owner

“Great place to eat by Sharon Rasytinis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2012

We have been visiting Camden Maine for many years and always look forward to our meals at the Village Restaurant. And have never been disappointed. We enjoy the excellent seafood, the great service, and the views of the water.
My husband always has the fried clams and I always enjoy the brolied haddock and the fresh vegetables.
The desserts are always the best in town.
Looking forward to our return visit in 2013.

“Food with a view”

The Village provides a menu of traditional New England favorites. Served promptly at reasonable prices. Once served you can sit and enjoy the harbor view however hot or cold, dry or wet it may be outside.

“Great food in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2012

I always like eating at the Village restaurant cause I think they have the best fried clams around.
The view is great and they have A/C for those hot muggy days. You won't be sorry for going there.

“Dingy, dirty, bad food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2012

We had high hopes, but almost left after sitting down. We should have known it was bad as it was 1:00 pm and there was only one other table occupied. The broccoli bites appetizer was nothing more than a frozen appetizer that the grocery store would carry. My husband's Maine shrimp were also most likely prepared and frozen by a food processing company. My lobster was way overcooked and tough. Very sorry we picked this restaurant. Also, it was very expensive for what we got ... About $25 per person.

I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with your visit. We strive to make all of our customers
visits enjoyable. Your characterization of our restaurant as dirty and dingy however must
warrant a response. We take pride in providing a very clean and updated dining experience.
Our Restaurant was completely rebuilt just a few years ago with a 180 degree "wall of
floor to ceiling windows". This allows for a great view of Camden harbor from all of our seats.
It also allows for a very bright and sunny dining room. Our walls are freshly painted and
both our windows and walls and trimmed in light oak woodwork. Combined with tiled
entry and new carpets we are very proud of our restaurants fresh clean atmosphere along
with two of the most scenic dining rooms in Maine.
I am confused that you thought the lobster was tough and overcooked. All our lobsters
are cooked to order and are not overly cooked. Perhaps you are used to cheaper "soft shell" lobsters whose meat is of a different texture. We prepare our fried shrimp to order as we do with all our seafood items. The broccoli bites are the only prepared appetizer that we have on our menu and are well liked by customers.
The price for shrimp is 16 dollars. Hard shell lobster is 20 dollars. These are very
competitive prices and on the low side for this market. I am sorry that your visit was not
as you wished . Most of our customers mention that their dining experience was
excellent the view great and the value they received was very good and that they would
be seeing us again. Paul Prescott owner
