The view from Mount Battie gives you a wonderful perspective of the coast and harbors. Be sure not to miss a chance to do this on a clear day. There is a small charge for entry to the park.

We could see the harbor of Camden below. It was a foggy but the view was still panoramic. It must be spectacular on a crisp clear day.

We walked straight from the Lodge at Camden Hills. 10 min walk to the park entrance, $9 fee for my wife and me to walk into the park, and about 35 minutes of walking on the Mt. Battie Road got us to the top. My wife was pretty winded, but overall a fairly short and not very difficult walk. We did not take one of the many trails as we wanted the most direct route to the top. With more time, it would be fun to experiment with the trails.
The view was wonderful, and not very crowded. The walk back down was the hard part.
Probably the single most interesting site in the Camden are. Well worth the hike.

We hiked up Mount Battie and were rewarded with great views of the Camden harbor and the islands off shore. It was a little too misty for us to see Acadia, but according to the panorama map and key at the summit, Acadia is visible on clear days. There is a road going all the way to the top for those who do not want to hike. There are pit toilets (very nice ones) at the summit, but that is it for services. No drinking water up there as far as we saw, so bring water and a snack if hiking.

It took us two hours to get up and back down, hiking at an easy pace, and allowing for a half hour at the top. The trail is very nice -- typical eastern rocky trail, with a few easy scrambles over boulders. It was on the strenous side for our six year old, but his older sister (9) thought the climb up and down was pretty easy. They were proud of themselves afterwards for having climbed a "mountain". Bring bug spray if you go in the summer, as the mosquitoes are noticeable in places. My husband went back the next day near dusk for a run, and he said the deer flies were out and about as well.

Very good hiking trayils, most are on the hillier side. If you are not a hiker that's okay, as there are great vantage points attainable by car.
