Myself and three teenagers drove up to Camden recently. We explored the downtown a little bit and then drove up Mt. Battie in Camden Hills State Park. Great view from there even if you don't feel like hiking. From there we hiked up Mt. Megunticook. It was a great hike. We had to keep moving in the lowlands because the black-flies were out. Once we reached the top though, the breeze kept them at bay and we hung out and relaxed for a bit. The hike including our time at the top was between 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The teens could have done it faster without me slowing them down :) We had a nice day on our a moderate level hike. Highly recommend it for visitors to the Camden area.

Family trip to the park was worth it. A great view of the area with a two story old rock lookout tower, eary to climb stairs, and good lookout locations. There are several spots available of photo shots and watching the world go by.

We camped here at the campground within the park. It was mid May so it was very empty. Beautiful park and campground. Bathroom facilities are average but I would stay here again. We rode our bikes to top of Mt Battie (12% grade and higher at places) for amazing views. You can also drive or walk to top and it is well worth it. Gorgeous views! Don't miss this stop if you are driving on Rte 1. Lots of trails within the park also.

We entered the park through a trail head along the road, and hiked up Mt. Megunticook to Ocean Lookout. It was a moderate climb to a beautiful view over Penobscot Bay. There the trail connected to many other trails, and we wandered a bit before heading back down. We only had a day to spend in Camden, and this was the perfect way to spend a morning. The trail was rocky, with lots of blueberry bushes and places to relax and appreciate the views along the way. Would love to come back when the blueberries are ripe!

Arrived on a lovely clear day in mid May and the view was fabulous.
Friendly and chatty man collecting entrance fee.
Husband saw first (tiny) snake on the East Coast. "There are no poisonous snakes in Maine" said one of the other visitors.
Not too many other folk there due to the time of year.
