We visit Camden almost every year on our way to Acadia NP but this is the first time we went to Camden Hills State Park. It appeared to be a sunny day and we were hoping to experience the wonderful view at the top of Mt. Megunticook. We hike the trails at Acadia every year and we are used to following trails with blazes and cairns. We found the trails at Camden Hills to be very poorly marked and we had great difficulty with treacherous, slippery rocks even though we were wearing good hiking shoes. We encountered many other people who had to turn back or who were confused which trail led where. The top of the mountain was fogged in but we had a glimpse of the view on our descent. Fortunately, we found the right trail leading back to the parking lot. I fell on my back on the slippery algae but was not hurt. I recommend purchasing the trail map instead of relying on trail markers. I will visit the park again next year as the hike was very interesting!
