Stopped here for breakfast before beginning a long journey home. We really were not impressed at all ( based on the other 2 reviews, I'm guessing lunch is better than breakfast).
The atmosphere was fine. Seemed to be a lot of locals, so was hoping that was a positive sign. There were quite a few flies buzzing around which is never pleasant when eating, but we understand it happens I guess.
The high chair we used was sticky as heck, so gross. Had to give it a good rub down before we even put our daughter in it.
Food was just gross, sorry. Coffee was blah. Toast was soggy. Bacon was overlooked. Pancakes tasted like straight Bisquick...(and not to be too graphic but my daughter has the WORST poops ever afterwards!). Really nothing was good I'm sorry to report.
One good thing though...our waitress was super friendly, prompt, and was busting her butt as she was the only waitress there.

Welcoming staff, great beer, amazing food... enough said! This should be a destination whenever you are in Calais!

Every time I pass by Karen's during the morning hours, there seems to be a crowd of cars parked on the street. So today, when i had to wait for car repairs, I went to try the little place out for myself.

It is a small, clean and friendly restaurant right decorated with bright mugs and right on Main street. I had a haddock sandwich which was a large piece of fish on an exceptional roll with lettuce and tomato.
It was served with great tartar sauce , chips and a pickle. I enjoyed the unsweetened ice tea from a pitcher with real lemon slices. So many places today have that awful sweetened tea from a bottle. I think they also had that but was thankful for the real thing, with ice! I was surprised to see beer and wine on the menu but then I noticed they are also open Thursday and Friday for dinner.
Today's soups were Split Pea and Haddock Chowder. And I saw a really good looking blueberry pie as I left.
Pleasant stop in Calais. I'll be back.
