“A pleasant surprise in Bucksport”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We were pleasantly surprised to find such good, fresh food in this restaurant, conveniently located on Main Street, on our way to Mt. Desert Island. We went there the first night on the recommendation of our B&B host at Williams Pond Lodge, but we returned for a second night because we had enjoyed our first dinner so much.

What did we enjoy? Lobster soft tacos with large chunks of fresh, sweet lobster and perfectly cooked scallops the first night; curried butternut squash soup (thick and spicy, but delicious) and fresh salmon cakes the second night: very tasty although we were given contradictory/conflicting information about whether the local salmon was raised or wild. Fresh hot bread and reasonably priced wines by the glass enhanced our experience, as did a friendly, if somewhat harried server.

Our dinner at Mac Leod's compared favorably with several other higher priced dinners we enjoyed in Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. We would enjoy regular meals here if we lived in the area, so we encourage you to give it a try!

“A Bucksport staple”
Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

As usual, Macleods had good food at a reasonable price. Had scallops, a Caesar salad, mashed sweet potatoes and all were tasty. George M. Was a gracious host and we enjoyed our meal. Convenient in town locale and always full with locals. I recommend this restaurant.

“This place is a gem”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We were here 2 years ago and panicked when their website disappeared. They are still here and still yummy. We vacation in the Canadian Maritimes and to keep the driving each day reasonable, we stop in Maine. We've stayed in Belfast and Searsport, but we are not "touristy" types, so they were not exactly our taste, although still pleasant. Bucksport, just a bit further east is perfect for us. MacLeod's is one of the reasons for this. The food is wonderful, and the folks working there are so lovely. Mr. MacLeod was even weed whacking out front when we first got there tonight. My gosh, the man does everything! The restaurant is everything that we look for when we are on vacation: great food, great service and reasonable prices. Oh, and I love the fish tanks.

“Good local food and service”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Had baked haddock and wine ... sides of sweet potato mashed and thai rice were ok but plain; service was very good, so we would go back and try more variety. Looked like popular with locals and older crowd.
