We travel through Maine on our way to Nova Scotia every summer and lodgings and restaurants are perennial issues there -- except in Brunswick, where there are now three great restaurants and Shere Punjab is one among them. The decor is simple yet appealing, and our service was prompt, friendly but unassuming. The sampler platter was a great appetizer, and was served with various homemade chutneys - in fact that was the best thing about this restaurant -- while it served what could be called standard northern Indian fare, each of the dishes, but especially the appetizers, tasted as if they were made by an Indian grandmother or something, they were that rustic, simple and yet idiosyncratic in a very good way. For our mains we had vegetarian items from the lunch menu: saag alloo, vegetable korma and channa massala, all of which had individual spicings and which betrayed attention to detail. The heat-meter of 1-10 (with 10 being Vindaloo) was perfect, as we like it just a bit less than Vindaloo and 8 was perfect for us. All in all, highly recommended, especially for Maine -- we live near Toronto, where there are hundreds of Indian restaurants, and this is one of the most solidly appealing, if admittedly unadventurous, among them

Stopped in here while in Brunswick with my family and some friends. 7 of us went for dinner, and all of us agreed it was some of the best Indian food we had ever eaten. The dishes ordered ranged from mild Chicken Saag to fiery Shrimp Vindaloo. I once had an Indian chef tell me that you can tell when a restaurant uses fresh spices because even the hottest food will not give you heartburn. I asked for my Vindaloo hot and it was, without a trace of heartburn after.

The outside seating was small but pleasant on a warm sunny day, the service was attentive and helpful. We will definitely go back again!

I love Indian food and was happy to discover Shere Punjab while visiting my daughter in Brunswick. The restaurant was empty when we stopped in for lunch a little after 11:30 on a Saturday which gave me pause, but my daughter said that it was usually pretty packed at dinner. We ordered the paneer and Punjabi naan, and different chicken dishes with curry, masala and mushroom. The server brought out a complimentary dish of padapan, thin crispy lentil wafers which I'm not a big fan of, but the three chutneys that were served alongside them were delicious. Both naan were excellent and large enough to be served in six slice portions. Everyone was very happy with their chicken dishes; my curry was ordered medium and had just enough heat to compliment the wonderful spices and tender chicken. The lunch menu is a really good deal here at $7.95 each and so are the naan at $3.95. I can absolutely recommend Shere Punjab to anyone who loves Indian cuisine and those who want to try something a little exotic.

I can't tell as yet if this is the best Indian restaurant in Brunswick, ME since I didn't try the other one...

By looking at the window and by reading many reviews, this one seemed, at first sight, to be the best ones... But I will try the other one next time around for sure...

There is plenty of parking options downtown and you will find a small free parking lot seconds away from the restaurant (2 free hours from 8h to 6h pm).

I was warmly welcome in this very nice intimate restaurant (could welcome max 50 guests I think...). I was given a nice table next to the window and did appreciated the calm and subtle light Indian music in the background... I would have prefer the lights to be dimmed out for a more relaxing ambiance but it was still very comfortable over all...

The service was excellent and very attentive... Great suggestions from the server... Not pushy at all and didn't suggest the highest meal on the menu or trying to have me drink some wine or beer at all cost ;-) deeply appreciated.. When I'm driving I prefer tea or hot water...

At first, I did enjoy the papadam (lentils dry waffle with black pepper)... However the 3 sauces were way too mild for my taste... Of course the brown sweet one was good but the green and red were way too mild...

I had the Shere Punjab Mixed Grill (mixed platter of chicken, lamb and shrimp with veggies and bed of rice).

I asked for medium spicy and I wasn't disappointed... The tandoori sauce was delicious! The rice was average so I only ate very little....

It was a delicious meal... A great evening...

I had finally a chai tea and was please with a delicious quite affordable meal...

A must try!
