“Excellent lunch!”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

We were in Brunswick for a get-a-way weekend and had heard about Richard's from the hotel desk staff and the tourist agency/information site. We decided to try it for lunch and were delighted. I love German/Austrian food, but when you have had Wiener "style" schnitzel at the vonTrapp family lodge, it is often had to top in the states. I have come to like pork just as much as veal for this dish, and I loved the fact that this restaurant had many choices available in small portions. I had the Wiener Schnitzel and spatzle, along with red cabbage. i even had a German Bier. My husband had the curry wurst with hot potato salad and sauerkraut. We would go back whenever we are in Brunswick again. We realized after getting back to our room at the Capt. Daniel Stone Inn that we could have used our NHPTV card for $5.00 off, but now we have it for next time!

“Top-Notch German Cuisine, Gemutlich Atmosphere!”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Having lived in Germany, we are always on the lookout for a good German restaurant. Richard's is just such a place. We thoroughly enjoyed the thin, crisp schnitzel, and the wurst sampler was superb! The wine list is extensive and reasonable, and the atmosphere is cozy and friendly. The proprietor makes a point of visiting each table to make sure all is well. We had great service and a memorable evening!

“German Food - A nice switch from seafood”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

This restaurant is downtown near the college (Bowdoin). There is a good selection of establishments on the strip. The owner is well-versed in german cuisine. The food is well prepared. We arrived 10/15, the end of the tourist season. Not sure what any other time would be like but given the small size of the restaurant, reservations would be advisable; we just happened to luck out. I would recommend the cabbage and noodles.

Three of us have enjoyed German- Austrian-Hungarian food in those countries and were really looking forward to a good revisit to those cuisines. But it was not to be. I suspect that the food at Richards is premade ethnic food and is not made from scratch in this kitchen. Sad that the food could not match the decor, which was authentic.
