“Really fabulous place”
Reviewed December 13, 2013

This was my first experience with tapas of any kind but I must say that I loved it. Tao Yuan was great. The setting was elegant but understated and very cozy. But the food was really stand-out. The scallops I had were the best I've ever eaten. The servings were exquisitely presented and uniformly delicious. Plan to spend a bit of money, though, especially if you're hungry. But it's worth it!

“EXQUISITE!!!!”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

My previous review of Tao was for a lunch. We decided to visit for their Sunday Dim Sum brunch which they have on the last Sunday of each month. I can only say that their food is nothing if not exquisite to see and to eat.
Their procedure is unlike the restaurants in New York's Chinatown where the wait staff moves through the restaurant with carts filled with wonderful hot and cold delicacies and you choose while they roll around. Tao allows you to each choose 3 dishes from a fixed/changing menu for a set price. they deliver the plates as ready but they do arrive in an appropriate sequence.
I can only describe their food as a gift to the palate. Each bite is a most enjoyable experience and you leave the restaurant feeling both satisfied and exhilarated.
The wait staff is attentive and helpful. the atmosphere is concise, clean and comfortable.
We hope to spend many more lunches, dinners and Sunday brunches with them

“Underwhelmed”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

Asian influence with flavors muted. A dish containing the words ma la in description had almost no evidence of numbing sensation one should feel in mouth. A new Korean dish had little or no evidence of Korean hot pepper paste that should be included in the dish. Seems like the cooking is an attempt not to offend by offering to much strange flavors. Result is boring.

“Wonderful food experience for all the senses”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

This was my second visit and we were eight and had a tasting menu. Just about every dish was excellent, and all were simply and beautifully presented. The diversity of choices, the quality of the products, and the novelty of the combination of flavors, resulted in an amazing experience for all of us. Maybe we had a bit too much food, but it was so good, that I am already thinking about the next visit. A wonderful gem off the beaten track and definitely worth a detour if you are within a certain radius of the mid-Maine coast.

“Excellent Asian Fusion Cuisine, Great Staff”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Have eaten here twice and both times it was excellent. The flavors are fresh, simple yet complex and everything we tried was fantastic. We went with a group of six which was great for ordering a ton of different items and sharing. Our first time here was on a Wednesday and we had the special chef's tasting menu at a fabulous deal. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in to small plate concept and a dining adventure. The staff is great - attentive service and they were great about making sure that we made it to our after dinner event on time without feeling rushed.
