Sunrise Cottages was exactly what I had hoped for. An amazing setting, wonderful food, friendly and helpful owners, immaculate cottage that was well-made and cozy. Great service, great food, great experience.

Fred and Shirley are very friendly and helpful hosts and we had a good time at the Sunrise Cottages where we have recently spent 4 nights. The location is out of the way but still convenient for the restaurants and shops in Blue Hill and to explore Deer Isle.
The cabins are clean, spacious, nicely appointed and REALLY quiet.
Fred prepares breakfast to order during week days and there are very yummy specials added during the week-ends - the strata with prosciutto and provolone deserves 5 stars!
And it's really great value too.
Highly recommended.

Our hosts went far out of their way to ensure that we had a fantastic time on our visit to the Blue Hill Peninsula. The cabins are beautiful, homey, and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were gourmet-quality, cooked with exceptional care. We really can't say enough about the generous, lovely, personable service.

We can't say enough good things about Shirley and Fred and our relaxing, peaceful stay at Sunrise Cottages. They are very interesting people and very helpful in suggestions of things to do and see in the area.
The Cottage was extremely comfortable, we had everything we needed. Fred did an
excellent job building the cottages. We also appreciated the delicious and creative breakfasts that he built. We look forward to a return visit with them.

We travelled 300 miles to stay at the the Sunrise Cottages. This was not a place to stay while attending some function. When Fred was leading group kayak trips on Cape Cod I took my first kayak trip and several others with him so that led me to find out what he was doing after his life on the Cape. Their website described the two cottages and the breakfast shed which Fred built. The idea of a b&b with the privacy of separate cotteges appealed to me and my wife. We kayaked on Smith Cove and the Bagaduce River and biked in the town of Blue Hill. When we go back next year, we will hike Blue Hill Mountain and the sanctuary which is about 2 miles down the street. The following year (2011) we might stay at Fred and Shirley's and venture further afield to Acadia and New Brunswick. You couldn't ask for better hosts. After 4 days they had become our friends.

The cabin we stayed in was great for the two of us. I would highly recommend the cottages to anyone wanting comfort and quiet. We were out and about most of our stay, but had our breakfasts at the "shed" and enjoyed the food and the company of the owners. We will probably stay again when we go up the next time.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sunrise Cottages and Breakfast Shed. Shirley and Fred are wonderful hosts.

We were attending a college class reunion at Maine Maritime in nearby Castine Maine. The cottage was adorable. It is in a remote area but that is part of the charm. There are just two cottages so you have a lot of privacy. Since it was September, there was a chill in the air. The cottages have electric baseboard heat but also a Jotul gas stove. We loved the stove. It gave a very nice atmosphere and warmth. The cottages look small from the outside but are very comfortable inside. Inside you have a nice big king bed (that may be used as twins if desired), stove, two comfy chairs, mini-fridg, tv, coffee pot, good sized bathroom, etc. with plenty of area to walk around the furniture. The high ceiling with fan also add to the space and charm.

There was outdoor furniture by each cottage in case you wanted to enjoy the peaceful spot. We didn't use them but kayaks, canoes and bicycles were available to guests at no charge.

Breakfast at the breakfast shed was included. It was a great breakfast! The Breakfast shed is open to the public on certain days of the week, however, always open for guests. The food was fabulous and the selection was incredible. There is a large menu that has all of the regular breakfast selections (eggs, omelets, french toast, pancakes, home fries, home baked muffins and more) plus terrific specials. Fred offered three specials that morning a Fritatta, a Souffle and a Finnan Haddie. I had the delicious Souffle and my husband went for the eggs, bacon & home fries. Accompanied by homemade toast, excellent coffee and juice, our breakfast was great. I would encourage anyone in the area to come for breakfast on those days when the Breakfast Shed is open to the public.

We truly enjoyed the cottages and our breakfast. I would encourage anyone who is looking for an out of the way, romantic spot to check out this affordable little haven. (It would be a nice spot for friends traveling, too.) Enjoy!
