“A sanctuary not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2007

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Oakland House and in the general area. It is a little off the beaten path, but was definitely worth the drive!

We stayed in the Shore Oaks Inn, which was gorgeous! We loved sitting on the porch in rocking chairs and watching the water, and listening to . .. well not much. It was just so peaceful.

It is a nice place to stay becuase you can visit nearby attractions, such as Acadia and Bar Harbor, as well as see "real" Maine towns and local life. Plus, you do not get the crowded resort feel at all.

The food was very good, and all of the staff was helpful and friendly. We plan to return without a doubt.

  • Liked — The location, the tranquility, and the well mantained facilities
  • Disliked — Can't think of anything!

We had booked a cottage for Memorial Day Weekend 2004 and were looking forward to going but then got the call to hear that our son was born so we would be heading to the Midwest. I called 2 weeks prior to our arrival to explain that we just heard that our adoption (a complete surprise to us) was happening heard a lovely story from the woman whom I spoke to about her sisters adoption but never heard whether we would even get partially refunded since we paid in full. Followed up a few times with phone calls and nothing. Now we are heading back to the area and it is one place I would not call to stay.

IT is too bad because it just looks like an amazing place.

My husband and I were looking for a little sanctuary after a difficult spring, and Oakland House Resort was just the ticket. The staff pampers you, the food is creative and delicious, the scenery is serene. Mr. Littlefield is a wonderful host and full of interesting and amusing information. One can do as little or as much as one wants. We particularly enjoyed listening to the loons from our bedroom and watching the seals play off the end of the pier.

It is a wonderful place, better than a cruise.
