I had a booking in Travancore court where we stayed couple of years ago and which was fantastic. This time, we wanted to stay a night and relax the day to catch the train in the evening back. Chose Woodlands, thanks to Mulari and his email correspondence.. I did not know when I would make it there during the day from Kalady but we made it in the evening. We were offered a room 306 which was OK. I was not satisfied because it faced the corner to MG ROad and the lock looked broken. Then they patiently showed me four other rooms in the 2nd and 3rd floor.. none of them were good - they looked ancient and well slept in. Old Rooms, looks and feels old and they charge not less expensive rates. Anyway we stayed put in 306 as this was the best offered - the AC tripped atleast 3-4 times on its own and all the times by magic came back alive in 15-20 minutes. Good staff, patient and helpful. Food is decent in Rangoli. Murali tops the cake. But I would not stay there again till they renovate - it is high time they did.

Room Tip: Stay away from MG Road facing rooms. Go the top most floor - I believe the 5th floor is renovated now. Talk to Mulari, the manager who is a guy who makes your stay better

Management response:Responded July 4, 2012

Dear Guest,

The a/c being tripped, probably because of the a/c temperature set in the remote control might be at 24 or above degrees this causes the a/c to cut off when the room temperature attains the set temperature. Please note this remote is handled directly the room guest and it is just like your normal a/c remote which you use in your home and probably the previous guest would have set the temp to 24 degrees.

Further, we now have started to check the temperature setting in the remote when we clean the room so that this kind of circumstances don't get repeated.

Please note we have started to renovate our rooms in the 2nd floor, which would likely to completed in 45 days time.

We request to come to our hotel once again and see the renovated a/c rooms in 45 days.

Thanking you

P.R. Murali

Good hotel .Max room are on old pattern. But renovation is going on & the top floor is renovated completely. We have got booking there only. The room services is not very good but they have maintained cleanliness. The complementary breakfast offered with booking was very good in taste as well as quality. Located on MG Rd Very near to Railway Station. Also have walking distance to Marine Drive....

Room Tip: Go for the top floor as recently renovated else other floors are having old styled room..

Dear Woodlands, I just wanted to send a quick note and thank you for all the arrangements you made for my guests from Malaysia. Everything went off without a hitch and all of them had a marvelous time in the hotel. The Suit room which you provided was very nice and clean. Thanks....

If there is an area where Woodlands Hotel (MG Road, Cochin) scores a 5 out of 5; it is the location. Talk about quality or service, they doesn't make it above 2 and here is why:

We asked for an extra bed and were allocated a double room+extra charges for the additional bed only to find out that the air conditioner in our room is not working. When we complained about it, the manager was quite p***d off, as if we were asking a favor from him and finally the technician arrived only to inform as that the AC IS NOT WORKING BECAUSE OF OUR BODY TEMPERATURE!!

When the conversation got heated up, the manager cursed us (to another staff but we overheard it), without looking at the situation professionally. He also didn't offer any feasible solution to the whole problem.

When we asked for the hotel manager to register a complaint, we were told that we can meet him in the morning but the next day this dude didn't show up and they gave us lame excuses.

I may not the most traveling person out there but I have been to hotels around India and when it comes to bad experiences, Woodlands Cochin is the great granddaddy of all the bad hotels I know.

Room Tip: As long as you don't have a criminal background and can use muscle power to solve problems, stay away from this place like a gangster street.

I spent three nights at the hotel and my stay was no where close to pleasant. Room service took 5 calls and half an hour to deliver a bottle of water. The rooms were clean but inadequately replenished; we had to call little things like towels, water etc.

We had kids with us and they woke up with mosquito bites all over the first morning, and when we asked for a repellent, the hotel was out of supply. Imagine a hotel which did not have an arrangement to get rid of mosquitoes in a suite!! Once in our three night stay, the lift went out of order and made us climb four floors.

The cab arranged by the hotel was good and we settled the payment with the cab driver on returning to the hotel, however the same charge was added to our hotel bill which led to quite a rowdy conversation with the receptionist. The manager apologized later.

On the plus side, the hotel is very conveniently located on MG road. The buffet breakfast offers a lot of variety and is quite satisfactory. They have their own Ayurveda massage parlor, which could prove to be convenient for some. The reception can also arrange for cab and tours on request.

Room Tip: Do not pay the venders for external services like cab or tours, if that is arranged by the hotel. It will be added to your hotel bill in the end. Venders might ask for settlement but it is better to discuss it out with the hotel staff to avoid confusion later.
