Firstly, if you are planning a visit to The Golden Lion as a pub, forget it, it's much more of a resaurant than a pub. When we visited on a Saturday evening, virtually every tale was already occupied with diners, even though it was only 6.45.
The welcome was very good, but the food was actually dreadful. The starter of 'giant' prawns was in fact four largish prawns and some 'pub' salad. Things got worse at the main course - my liver tasted like it had been precooked and warmed (very likely given the fact that we were there in total for about 45mins) and my wife's sausage and mash was dreadful - sausages completely burned.
When we complained, nobody came over to apologise and we were simply told that they had ben taken off the bill. This is not the point, if we had just wanted sausage and mash, we were very capable of cooking our own - what we wanted was a good dining experience, and this was far from it.More
