“Classic Carvery Pub with a twist”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Lovely quaint and historic pub in a very picturesque village. The classic Carvery is served on a Sunday but you can also get a red Thai curry if you prefer that. Great food themed evenings too.

“big letdown”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Was taken here for a treat but would have got better at a Harvester Scallops starter consisted of one scallop, steak at just under £18 was poorly presented with a few chips a couple of slices of cold tomato and a few overcooked mushrooms, beef blade was cold flavourless and dry had to ask for extra gravy but staff took so long meal was cold. Dessert of chocolate sponge was dry and pretty inedible bill for six was in excess of £200 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

“Lunch time dining”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

I recently went with two friends to The Golden Lion and it was our second visit, the first being during last year.

It is a welcoming establishment and all the staff are pleasant and look after the customers well. The menu has a good selection to choose from and I chose a curry, which was very tasty, but needed to be eaten immediately as it was only just warm and the plate not hot. We only had a main dish and we agreed that it was good value and we were not made to feel uncomfortable as we sat for quite a while after the meal just chatting.

But they need to do something about the flies. We encountered the same problem last year where there were several flies, which were most annoying and a bit off putting and I would suggest a discreetly placed good old fashioned flypaper would not go amiss.

It would not deter me from going again for a meal.

“Really love the Golden Lion, good food, nice staff.”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

My husband and I love the Golden Lion. We often take family and friends there. Staff are lovely, its well managed and nice food. The manager thinks of interesting events to keep the place a bit different as well. Saturday lunch is nice as its sort of busy but not too busy. If you want quiet, perhaps avoid Saturday night as it does get very full then.

“Quite handy for M6 (Junctions 2 or 3) but difficult to find - note postcode CV23 0JA.”

Above average pub grub, including small hot buffet at lunchtime - eg Cottage pie, lasagne, chicken curry. Pleasant staff, large car park.
