Went tonight with my partner. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We were quickly shown to our table and given the menu.
We chose the Baked Camembert sharing platter, which came with 6 pieces of bread, some salad, and a small pot of red onion marmalade. The cheese itself was nice, but being a whole Camembert was perhaps a bit too much to handle, even for two of us, but that to be fair was our fault, as it said it the menu it was a whole cheese. However, what with it being baked, you'd have expected it to be at least slightly warm, but it wasn't, unfortunately. It was still nice, although 6 pieces of bread certainly wasn't enough, 8 pieces minimum were required really, and the tiny pot of marmalade wasn't substantial enough either. But like i said, the cheese was tasty and we managed to gobble up nearly all of it !
Now, the main meal. My partner had Chicken in Leek and Stilton sauce, whilst I had the Chicken & Spaghetti Carbonara. Her chicken was very dry and if it had not been for the sauce, would have been inedible, whilst my dish literally tasted of nothing, there were no discernible flavours whatsoever, I'd have been better off eating the packet the chicken was shipped in !
She left half of her chicken whilst I left about three-quarters of my dish. Now, to be fair, when the waiter asked me if everything was ok when he came to collect the plates and I said, 'Not really, it was pretty tasteless', he did seem genuinely perturbed, and when I went to pay for the meals they had taken my main dish off the bill, so fair play to them for that.
Unfortunately what with that experience of the main dishes and, although this of course is down to personal preference, the two ales they had on tap which to me both tasted bloody awful, I doubt if we will be hurrying back here anytime soon.
