“Very Rustic”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

If you don't mind walking down the hallway on uneven floors to get to the bathroom, fighting off mosquitos, and not getting your room tidied up, the scenery here is so beautiful and peaceful.
The manager makes a great breakfast and staff is very friendly and accommodating which makes up for the run down building.

We got there late afternoon and there was a note to call a cell phone. We were told what room was ours and after finding it found the bed had no blankets. We found some blankets from a lady vacuuming a room and never did see anyone more for three days. The gardens and yard were covered in three foot tall weeds. The restaurant has been closed. The views are great and the peace and quite amazing. This could be a wonderful inn it just needs a lot of TLC.

We recently attended a wedding at the Lookout. I was surprised by the beautiful Maine scenery. The Inn itself was very rustic and understandably so. It has been in the family for many, many years and given the scope of the property and the many outbuildings it must be an incredidible task to keep this Inn in perfect repair. We stayed in the very new and completely equipped Beachhouse. It had everything we could have needed. Friends of ours stayed in a much older, more rustic cottage and it was also just what they needed. The service workers were always wonderful and the breakfast was perfect. All in all they did a wonderful job hosting the wedding and we had a very lovely, relaxing time.

Room Tip: The Inn itself, according to friends was wonderful. Ask for information on the many accommodations o...

We stayed here after finishing a camping trip at Acadia (1.5 hours away) and after doing the ferry trip to Isle au Haut island. We were pleasantly surprised at the quaint, historic, clean Inn, the friendliness of the owner and staff. We arrived after dark and had a 3rd floor room looking out to the Ocean. We were utterly surprised at the gorgeous views of the property sloping down to the bay out our window in the morning.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Lookout is a classic Maine shore-front inn with B&B inn rooms, cottages, fine dining and catering offerings. Come back in time with us. The Lookout has been owned by the same family since 1762, and operated as a shorefront getaway for over 130 years. Our cottages are pet friendly, have kitchen facilities, decks, barbeques, everything you need to relax with a panoramic water view. Inn rooms sport classic furnishings and come with a full breakfast, often cooked by the owner. Our meadow overlooking six diffent bodies of water is the perfect place for your wedding, family reunion, or other catering event. It is even great for plain old fun with frisbees and kites. The Lookout shoreline gives its guests access to a kayak launch (the rock by the apple tree), sunning (and swimming for the bold), low-tide walks to our kissing trees and beyond. Getaway with us and be treated like a real person. We have time to talk. We even cook your eggs to order. We support the easy, no-fuss, simple getaway, with a touch of fine dining class to boot! We will know your name and be expecting you-- even if by note :-) because we are small and owner run. Come get to know us. We will get to know you. See you soon. ... more   less
