Our stay at the Brooklin Inn this summer was our second overnight and third dinner. We traveled all the way from Hong Kong last summer and will likely do it again. We are never disappointed! I love the Inn for many reasons, but mostly because I feel like I am "home;" it's as if I walked into Green Gables, very quaint and comfy. If you are looking for posh and modern, then look elsewhere...this place is shabby chic. The things that some folks list as negatives --older furniture and linens, an occasional bit of dust, no AC, no "fancy" locks on the doors, and hearing/smelling kitchen preparations-- are actually all the very things I find wonderfully endearing. Chip has been a delightful host at each visit and makes sure we don't leave the breakfast table hungry. The dinners are absolutely wonderful! This summer I had the best haddock fillet I have ever tasted and it was huge. The food is organic and locally harvested as much as possible. We heartily recommend Brooklin Inn and look forward to future visits. The Maine coast is simply magnificent!

We called in mid afternoon for accommodations on a Saturday evening in mid September. They were very accommodating in making space for us. The Inn Keeper even changed our room after we checked in to give my wife a better shower. The room, and bed were quite comfortable. Breakfast was good but not outstanding.

We ate that night in the Inns Dining Room which has a good reputation so were were excited about dinner. Service was good and the homemade bread was excellent. Unfortunately our meals were mediocre. My wife had a picked out lobster dish which and I had a pork dish. The pork was tough and tasteless. The lobster was not as good as a simple boiled lobster. The bill with a bottle of wine was over $140 which seemed a little steep for a mediocre meal in a tiny town in Maine well outside of the high tourist season.

We remember these folks as particularly nice guests and appriciate their comments on the food.
As for the pork dish...I concure. It was too dry and not tasty enough. We were trying a boneless loin chop, but have since gone back to pork tenderloins.

Our lobster is a very popular dish served out of the shell with fresh mango and local canteloup salsa and a boubon vanilla sauce. It usually comes on soft yellow polenta, but that nght, the polenta was white and it just wasn't the same dish.

The bill was only $97 including his bottle of Sicilian Red, appetizers and desserts...not particularly expensive for an all organic, fine dining dinner anywhere. If they had mentioned their disapointment to us, we certainly would have made some accomodation.

A surprisingly delightful B&B found us via an ad in the "The Working Waterfront" this last week. We were visiting the Blue Hiil region and looking for an affordable place to lay our heads for a night. The Brooklin Inn was our treasure: a simple, updated vintage, very clean and comfortable B&B. The accommodations were more than adequate though what provided the delight and enjoyment was the friendliness of the staff and the outstandingly fresh, local and tasty food we indulged in at dinner. Oh yes, the breakfast did not disappoint either.

Chip and Gail are wonderful innkeepers. They were able to take a last minute reservation and turn it into a magical weekend. All of their folks from the talented chef, the very warm and friendly staff, their delightful housekeeper and the make-you-feel-right-at-home downstairs "pub" tender made it a very memorable Valentine's Day trip! Thank you one and all for not only making us feel like family, but for giving us a taste of Downeast Maine that we will never forget. Comfy, cozy, welcoming, delicious and fun - what more could anyone want?! Add Chip's Blueberry French Toast with fresh maple syrup for breakfast... and it is truly is unforgettable!!

Room Tip: The King Bed with Private Bath and Tub (Hand Shower) is delightful and cozy. The handcrafted soap a...

It was a dark and snowy night when we three .. two locals and a Las Vegean wended our way from Blue Hill searching for a suitable birthday celebration site. Chip: excellent!! and ditto on your staff. By calculations .. maybe .. 50 years at sea?? So, yes, I will consider carefully serving under you as captain .. but .. we must return for dinner and lodging and vivations. Your details are above beyond. We hope you can endure and relax in your new endeavor... and ... to return for more organic vitals. Edwin Pyle, Henderson, NV

If you are looking for a get-a-way that embodies downeast Maine, look no further. The atmosphere takes you back in time. There is a little pub in the cellar heated with a comfy woodstove. My wife and I played cribbage for two hours while chatting with the owners and the bar keep. For dinner I had the prime rib and my wife had the scallop dish, both were excellent. Stayed for one night and were delighted. The rooms are clean and the decor is turn of the century.

We had a terrific experience at the Brooklin Inn on a recent off-season Saturday night. The inn keepers, Chip and Gail, and the rest of the staff were friendly and our room excellent. Our dinner Saturday night was outstanding. (There's also a nice off-season discount when you stay and have dinner at the inn.) There's a small pub downstairs that serves good pub food if you want to skip the full dinner. All-in-all we had a great weekend and hope to return soon.
