“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Arrived by narrowboat on very warm Tuesday afternoon. We were all, including the dog, made very welcome and felt like we were treated as friends even though we were strangers. Landlord was very, very helpful, picking up some shopping for us when he went out. Barman delivered a bowl of iced water into garden for doggie. Beer was well kept and lager very refreshing! Returned in evening for a meal, leaving dog on boat as he was tired, which meant we could eat in restaurant, the only place dogs can't go. Had a bit of a wait for food but, as we were on holiday and not in a hurry, that just gave us time to have another drink. When food arrived it was perfect. I had the salmon and husband had steak. Everything was properly cooked from fresh, not microwaved from frozen. We also thought prices were very good. Landlady and staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Landlord even helped to locate 'lost' husband (wandered off to chat). We thought the laundry and bathroom facilities for boaters were a great idea, although we didn't use them. We were tempted by the breakfast but I'm not a morning person so we missed it. We'd happily recommend this pub to everyone. We just wish we lived nearer, we're a two hour car journey away. Maybe next year!! Good luck Kelly (ladies first!) & Simon.

Having visited the boat pub next door and trodden through some nasty substance on the carpet, we visited BARLEY MOW hoping to find a much better atmosphere. We did. So much so we returned today 13th August and had four superb meals, great new land lord and lady and can't wait to return after the refit later this year. To all canal boaters, this is a great find, they provide basic provisions, washing and drying facilities for your clothes and a BATH, such luxury when you have been out for a while and ache all over, a shower is ok but to soak those weary bones - a great find. All the food is home made, no "ping" meals here. Highly recommend. Well done Simon and Kelly.

Booked a table there for a family meal at 7pm. Our order was finally taken at 7:45 - at 8:15 we were told that the sirloin steak was sold out and rump steak medium rare was ordered instead. At 8:50 the food finally arrived - in edible burnt steak - veg ordered with no peas and only peas arrived- new potatoes half cooked - parts of order missing. After waiting so long we were all past hunger anyway. One waitress was rude when we dared to complain the other was so apologetic. Words had to be had with the manager outside - didn't want a floor show inside but he needed to know what an absolute shambles it was. Under new management apparently - he wants us to come back - I don't think so!

Having taken the key just 24 hours earlier, initially with very little supplies and equipment in place, they had done an excellent job in getting the pub up and running with a full menu and good beer. Being next to the canal tow path and the plans they have, this will become a welcome stop along the canal.

A canal side meal for four...three meals were deliver incorrectly. Waitress was informed and took no action. Argumentative when queried over the bill. Utterly underwhelmed by the entire experience. Never argue with your customers...we are passing trade but would not recommend to others. Had much better elsewhere.

New to the area and keep hearing this place advertised on the radio. Popped in for a pint. Nice cosy little place. A decent pint and the food smelled gorgeous.
The car park is next to the Oxford canal. We had a little walk up the towpath and went through the Newbold Tunnel. Amazing structure really. About 200m long, towpath / walkway in the tunnel. Glad there was a handrail to hold on to.
Not stayed there or eaten there but watch this space.
I bet it gets packed in the summer.

quite little idyllic village, canalside resting place for boats, and diners alfresco, good food, O'really the term 'good' is not one i would use to describe the culunary delights this lady can produce, and i'm a food snob!!! believe me.One warning on the food it is adviseable to say ' not too much please' as the meals are massive while at the same time real quality. this is i feel the most important part of a hotel, you can go into the restaurant and read a menu in english giving a vast choice of meals you can actually enjoy without all the stupidity of trying to read the mind of a so called 'chef' who has a very limited range and poor description qualitys, food is simple and there to be enjoyed. It going dusk and the lights are shimmering against the water, the desert is finished and its time for bed, what a relaxing pleasent evening, watch for that big breakfast now!!!! wow I FORGOT THE M6/M1 IS ONLY A MILE AWAY
