“amazing beachfront room!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

Just got home from El Dorado Maroma, had a great experience!! We had an oceanfront room which made the trip!! Spent a lot of time on the balcony bed chilling!! Having been to many all inclusives and 5 star hotels this place had pro's and con's.

Pro's: The staff, best I have dealt with!! When the bartender didn't have an item he went to Walmart and had it the next day!! Room issues taken care of by manager!
The room was nice with an oceanfront balcony and bed with view of marina
Top shelf drinks
Size of resort, able to walk everywhere without an issue

Con's: The place is showing wear, even in newer buildings
The Food was OK that's it!! Not five star!! Need better quality and selection, there were better options at other Karisma resorts!
Not a lot of activites entertainment
Have to pay for internet!!

Overall a good resort worth taking a look at!!

Room Tip: try to get oceanfront!!

August was our second trip to the Maroma, we love the intimate boutique hotel resort and the beautiful white sand beach. The best part is the amazing staff! They truly made you feel that there isn't anything that they wouldn't do to make it the stay of your dreams. Thanks to the Spa staff, Erica and Eva; Room Service, Alfredo; Lomas Travel Customer Service Rep, Luis Mancilla; the Concierge team, Sally, The food is excellent as are the drinks, there is always something new to try. We recommend the green juice at breakfast and the asian food is excellent! We can't say enough about all the wait staff, bartenders and the beach/pool staff. We saw other guests request off menu items that were happily provided for them. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation in paradise, this is it!

Room Tip: We love the swin-up suites, beautifu patio with outdoor bed, chairs and lounge seating.

Just came back from another great week at EDM. It was our second trip to this place. The first time we went was 2 years ago. We loved it. It was really for us the best place we went. We do travel a lot and always go to 5 stars Resorts but this place was far better than where we went before in the Caribbean. We felt in love with this place because it was so peaceful. We are in our 50s and my wife and I like to read and relax by the pool. We also like good food and service.
For the service, you won't find a better place. Either you tip the staff or not does not make a lot of difference. They give you the best service you will ever find with a smile. After a couple of days, they know you name and always make you feel at home. There are changes that they made that we did not like compare to the last time we went there. First one is that they now have activities by the pool. You have bingo, pool volleyball and other things that for us did not care for. I understand that some people might want this but not us. The organizer is very loud and you can't relax anymore. We also rent the swimmup room that is located just in front of that pool so even if you go back to your room, you still have people screaming in front of you that make relaxing impossible. We understand that some people like those activities but we don't and that was one of the reason we spend a bit more for that resort. As far as the food, it is not that great. The Italian and Asian restaurant are not very good. The others are ok. Not close to where they were 2 years ago. We notice that the client are way younger and louder than before. Maybe we are getting older. What can you do.
It is still a wonderful place and the beach is amazing but if you are looking (like us) for a peaceful week with nobody to bug you for bingo or anyother activities...not sure.

My husband and I visited El DoradoMaroma Beach for a week in September 2012. We visited this resort previously about 3 years ago. We found that the resort has changed for the better, although we really enjoyed our first visit. This resort is small and intimate. There is one draw back to the rooms, namely, that you will not be able to see the ocean unless you are on the top floor. Our request for an ocean view (top floor) was graciously accomodated once we made clear
how important it was to us. Of course it did mean moving after unpacking.
The newer ocean side breakfast and lunch restaurant is a highlight of the resort. When we visited the first time it did not exist and was simply a large palapa style area where you could eat lunch on the beach. The new restaurant is a huge improvement, and the staff there and throughout the resort want to ensure that you are taken care of. This is truly a 5-star resort, and I say that having travelled to Mexican all-inclusives 4-6 times per year for the last 4 years, staying exclusively at 5-star resorts. We really enjoyed our second stay at the El Dorado Maroma. Good food, good service, beautiful weather in September despite it being "hurricane season". I had the best massage of my life in the spa here. We will return. You should go!!

Room Tip: If you want an ocean view, rather than a view of the palm trees, you will need to request the top fl...

EDM was amazing from the second we arrived to the day we flew home. The entire staff was helpful and very nice around the clock. We especially enjoyed Estella keeping our drinks topped off as we lounged on the beach. Our room was on the 4th(top) floor with a outdoor shower (honeymoon suite) and a great view of the ocean from the deck. The white sand beach and clear waters were a delight to snokel and kayak(the kayak tour was awesome-thanks Comacho). Luis with Lomas was great to work with and set up an amazing dolphin adventure for us.

We are not "gourmet" kind of people, so had to get used to some of the fancy dining options in the evening, but after talking with the wait staff we usually were able to figure out what we would like, however, being all-inclusive we were able to try many of the options we normally would not have without out the worry of cost. Breakfast at the beachfront restaurant was a great way to start the day with the ocean breeze and lounge chairs only feet away. Room service around the clock was timely and restaurant quality. Also, make sure to try the candy bars in the mini fridge, they are the best!!!

Just a few suggestions: We are not big drinkers, so a drink list would be helpful to try all the exotic new flavorful options. The food was great, but maybe more authentic "mexican" food would have been nice.

The resort was very clean, well kept, and taken care of daily with minimal noise and disruption. Its hard to know what to say when everything was GREAT!!! We received maximum value for our money at EDM and would recommend this resort to anyone without hesitation.

Room Tip: honeymoon suite on 4th floor had an amazing view, no elevators, so good exercise!

This is a great resort for many reasons but if you’re a “beach person” then you will love this resort. We certainly did on our honeymoon trip.

Check in was easy – greeted with a cold towel and a glass of bubbly. Our room wouldn’t be ready until the scheduled check-in time, so they gave us a brief tour of the resort then dropped us off at one of the restaurants for lunch. After lunch, we met with our concierge, Ruth, who helped us make reservations for the special themed dinner events and answered any questions we had (she also helped us schedule the spa treatment during our stay). We were given a room to change into our swimsuits and then we hit the beach to wait for our room.

We’ve seen some great beaches but this one was truly breathtaking. It’s hard to imagine that there is a better beach in the Cancun area. There are water breakers in the beach located about 100 feet out, which keep the water calm and at waist- or knee-level. Other reviewers have complained about their appearance, but they didn’t bother us. On the contrary, we appreciated the calm, clear, waist-level water. On a related topic, there are many fish in the area that are very accustomed to tourists. They don’t bite but they can be aggressive and will brush against your legs or feet (we believe looking for food in the unsettled sand, so they want you to move and kick it up).

Although this is a world-class beach, strangely, most of the time it was relatively empty (maybe people were afraid of the fish?). There were always plenty of chairs and beach beds available; often, we felt that we had the beach to ourselves. Beach service was also great (thanks Charly, Fredrick and Estella!).

Service, overall, was superb. We’ve gotten excellent service at other resorts but we felt that the staff at EDM was generally more personable and enthusiastic than we’ve seen anywhere else. They seemed genuinely proud of the resort and wanted to ensure we had an extraordinary honeymoon. There is an art to service and they have mastered it. In contrast, we saw some audacious behavior by other guests. On one day, some guests with a top-floor balcony plunge pool were splashing other guests below who were encouraging this. During one splash, they got the waiter delivering their drinks, completely drenching him. He maintained a smile throughout the whole incident but we later heard that it was intentional and they had been trying to splash him the whole afternoon. This is a small, quiet resort. On behalf of other guests (and staff), if you’re interested in reliving your spring-break days in a manner that lacks common decency, please go somewhere else.

The resort has a tropical feel and some interesting wildlife. Recommend bringing and using bug spray. The grounds were nice but it did seem like the buildings could use some updating. We had a top-floor honeymoon suite and loved our panoramic view. Note, there are no elevators, so one drawback for staying in this room were the stairs -- although, we needed the exercise after all those pina coladas. Our balcony was very private and had a picture-perfect view of the ocean. The bathroom was also more enclosed that other resorts we’ve stayed at and it was nice to have real doors.

No vacation or resort is perfect and I think it’s worth mentioning a few of the negatives to hedge unrealistic expectations:
- Our opinion on the food is mixed. As a vegetarian, I felt that there were limited options, although they would offer selections that were not on the menu if I asked. My husband is not a vegetarian and really enjoyed most of his meals.
- Internet is about $10/day, which would be fine if it was reliable and worked well. Unfortunately, this was not always case and we had a great deal of trouble using Skype and Netflix especially during peak times when other guests were likely doing the same.
- Given the quality of the beach, it would be great if they upgraded from the plastic beach chairs.
- Housekeeping wasn’t as thorough as I would have like but nothing major.

El Dorado Maroma provided us with a memorable honeymoon experience we will always cherish. In particular, we would like to give a special thanks to the following individuals for contributing to our dream vacation: Carlos (pool bar), Charly (beach), Fredrick (beach), Alfredo (waiter at Papitos), Javier (waiter at Papitos), Estella (beach), Ruth (concierge) and Alfredo (waiter at the Asian restaurant). We would enthusiastically recommend EDM to people looking for a quiet resort with an amazing beach and who appreciate excellent service.

Room Tip: Loved our 4th floor honeymoon suite!

El Dorado Maroma is a wonderful small intimate resort located on one of the best beaches in the area. If you are a beach lover like myself this is a resort for you. Maroma beach is rated one of the best in the world, it's pure white sand beach stretching as far as you can see. The water here is clear, sandy bottom great to swim or just float around.
The resort also has 2 pools each with a swim up bar. We had a honeymoon suite which was really nice. The room was very comfortable, with a large bathroom with both an inside & outside shower, king bed, and a large living room. We picked this room type because of the large terrace that has views of the ocean. It was a nice end of the day to sit on the terrace enjoying a glass of wine looking out at the ocean.
There are 4 restaurants and food is very good. I really enjoyed Papitos Gourment beach club with is located right off the beach serving both breakfast & lunch. Each day they have a themed lunch.
There are lots of activities going on all day and shows in the evenings at Rick's bar.
This is a wonderful resort and would recommend it to couples looking to get away for a romantic time together.

Room Tip: If you look a good view honeymoon suite or 4th floor.
