My wife and I just returned from a week at Secrets Maroma, and if you are looking for an all inclusive with easy and fast check-in at a beautiful, peaceful resort , with a gorgeous beach, charming and attentive staff look no further. The mix of couples both geographically and age diverse is delightful. Activities galore,(if you desire) with nightly entertainment that was diverting at the very least. The view of the ocean, pool and resort from the fourth(top) floor of the Preferred buildings is exceptional, and the massage with Ruby at the spa was great.
Especial kudos to the preferred club manager Yessica and our concierge Fabiola, both of whom could not have been more charming , patient and helpful.
We have been to two other all inclusives and Secrets stands head and shoulders above them. In fact, this is the only one to which we would, without question, return.
The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious, and lunch on the beach was as well, however, the only criticism is the food at dinner. The asian restaurant was fine, and while the French was good, the lighting was the worst I have ever seen (or should I say not seen) at the Italian restaurant . Even with both my wife's and my flashlight app on our phones working(as the room twinkled with other patrons flashlights) it was still difficult to see the presented food, making each biteful an adventure(altho' i must admit the food was tasty, it was weird not being able to identify the food except by taste). Oddly, given the locale, the food at the Mexican restaurant was the least good.
We are New Yorkers and we eat out a good deal of the time and perhaps we are spoiled , nonetheless given all the other outstanding aspects of this resort ,the dinner restaurants, while not bad, were a disappointment However unless food is your number one priority, Secrets is the place to be on the Mayan Riviera.

Dear guest,

Thank you so much for submitting your review, we will consider your comments on the lightning on the fine dining restaurants, however , it was designed that way as a very romantic ambiance.

A significant majority of the thousands of reviews of Secrets Maroma Beach mention the amazing service, and for a good reason. The service is truly incredible! Many times during my recent five day stay, I found myself wondering how the managment at SMB has been so successful at creating an environment where the guests feel truly welcomed. Simply put, the manager of this property (an Italian man who has the affection and respect of his staff) has put together an excellent team of employees who do an amazing job of anticipating and catering to your needs. And always with a smile, eye contact, and sincerity. This place functions like a perfectly tuned hospitality machine from checkin until checkout. Everywhere you go - your room, the beach, the bars, the restaurants - there is always a smiling face making an effort to make your vacation a bit more enjoyable.

Truly, the service is absolutely amazing and the resort would win my return visit for that reason alone. My sincerest congratulations to the management and its excellent team for a first class operation!

This property is not the glitziest all-inclusive available on the Maya Riviera by a long shot. In fact, the property is rather understated, especially when compared to more ¨Las Vegas-style¨ properties like the Iberostar Grand with which Secrets is often compared. If glitz, and bling, and over-the-top style is what you´re looking for, then Secrets might not be the best choice for you. Secrets is more about a very laid back atmosphere, the fantastic beach, the great food, and - yes - that incredible service throughout the resort.

I´ll be back for sure.

Our stay was the week prior to Christmas 2013 and we could not have been more pleased. In fact, we already booked the same week for next year before we left. Our first day or so started out with a few small hiccups in service due to some employees not being aware of, or knowing how to handle, our rather unique 3 person situation. However, we spoke to Head Concierge Ivan about our concerns and his response was nothing short of exemplary and personified 5 Diamond service. We are not sure how he did it across such a vast and varied resort, but we never had another issue of that sort for the rest of the week.
Some who made our stay so pleasurable were: Alvaro at reception, Lucy (love your smile!) in the lobby bar, Fernanda our concierge, Alejandro, Gaspar and Osbaldo at the beach cabanas, Anali with service on the beach, Lizethe and William at Portofino, Guadalupe the sommelier, smiling Alejandro the crepe chef, Big Willy and Odette in Entertainment, and of course Ivan. But we also had two stand-outs who we absolutely loved seeing each day, who made our week just that much more memorable; Alejandro in the World Cafe each morning for breakfast with his attentive service, friendly smiles, and for helping us as we attempted to expand our Espanol; and Bernardo in Portofino whose service and friendliness were top notch, we can still hear your laugh Bernardo and your happiness and positivity makes us smile when we remember you. These two servers really made our week and I cannot say enough good things about them. I highly recommend taking the time to establish a relationship with and get to know some of the servers and employees you will see again and again during your stay as it turns exemplary service into exemplary service with a personal touch. It was obvious how hard these people worked every day (6 days a week) and also how much pride and enjoyment they do it with.
Housekeeping also does an outstanding job here. The room, supplies, towels, coffee - all were checked and replenished constantly without us ever giving it a thought or hardly ever seeing it happen. The beach was always beautifully maintained, which could go un-noticed that it takes effort (the two men with rakes and a wheel-barrow who passed by every day) until you look at the beach of the resort next door which is crowded and strewn with seaweed at times. Also, the landscapers on property work almost invisibly and constantly - when you see a worker edging the grass and planting beds with shears or a machete instead of loud power tools, and you couple that with how vast the property is, you understand how much goes into maintaining that beauty. Also, the food was amazing, every day, every meal.
Thank you to everyone at Secrets for "doing it right" and creating such an environment of relaxation and enjoyment. We work very hard all year to be able to enjoy our Christmas vacation together, and we could not have asked for better.

Pros:
1) Food was delicious and well presented, with appropriate serving size (1/2 the normal US serving size). Great variety from French to Mexican to Japanese to Italian to Seafood, etc.
2) Clean and fine sand beach with strong wifi signal and wait staff asking if you want more drinks or food is awesome. Love the suspended beach beds by the beach.
3) Activities throughout the day with great evening shows.
4) Several nice pool areas with swim up bar and the rooms even had a swim out pool.
5) Everything included like unlimited food including 24 hour room service, unlimited alcohol, entertainment. The only thing not included is the spa services and alcohol ordered by the bottle and dining under the stars and special reserved beds (which you won't need since there are other free beds by the beach).

Cons:
1) Spa would not give massages to pregnant people and we were told that this was the overall company policy so it applies to all their other branches like Dreams, Zoetry, etc.
2) Upon check in was immediately enticed to participate in a sales pitch but it really was a timeshare talk. AVOID UNLESS YOU ARE RALLY INTERESTED AND WILLING TO INVEST A LOT OF MONEY.

Room Tip: The room with a swim out pool is worth the extra cost. It is unique and very nice and cool.

Dear guest,

Thank you so much for your review and for giving us a five star rating! We appreciate all the Pro's you listed, and as far as the Con's allow me to explain.

1) Massages to pregnant women are not recommended and we do this for the sake of our guests.
2) Even though you are invited to a sales presentation our guests can always decline and let us know they do not wish to be invited before arrival and we will be gald to put notes in the system.

With that being said, I will hope you give us the chance to host you again.

We booked to go to Mexico in Oct on a whim, looking at reviews this resort had everything we wanted but turned out to be so much more. The resort was clean and tidy at all times, food was second to none and we half expected to receive a bill on leaving the resort but it really was all inclusive, similarly with the drinks provided. We took a walk from the resort to the harbour which gave us a view of some of the surrounding beaches which again did not come close to the high standard and cleanliness of Secrets Maroma.

The entertainment was fantastic with an incredible entertainments team who actually take the time to personalise your experience and get all involved, in particular sachquach, big willy and yannis as well as the bar staff at the swim up bar.

Fantastic stay which cant be faulted. Cant wait to get back there!

My husband and I have traveled to Mexico many times and had yet to find a resort we'd like to return to, until we found secrets Maroma. The staff is incredibly professional and you can truly tell they love what they do. Great mix of guests from all over and all ages too, everyone very friendly and we've met new friends we know we will see again!

The rooms are all updated with jacuzzi tubs and balconies... And free wifi and international calling with their app. The food was okay for an all inclusive... It's never really "the best" but we enjoyed breakfast and lunch by the beach. Dinner was a hit or miss, but definitely all edible (I'm the child of a chef so I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to food) however we did love the Mexican restaurant and the mussels from the Oceana seafood restaurant. We rented a beach cabana for $40 on our last day, wish we would have done that more than once..totally worth the money, I'd highly recommend and we had a great time with Alejandro our personal concierge for the day. We did love lounging by the pool, always found a great spot and just adored our cocktail waitress Ceci.

The hotel also handled the only issue we had quickly.. During the last of our nights, we had new neighbors that were young college aged "kids" which were loud and obnoxious and casued little out no sleep... We requested a room change and it happend within an hour and no questions asked.

No complaints here, we will be back next year! Thank you for an amazing week of pure bliss!

We came back home today after 2 weeks in this resort. All the other reviews are accurate. We like to travel and we both agreed it was the best hotel we have stayed. We were allocated a room in block 21 which was initially disappointing considering the cost of the holiday and we were here to celebrate my birthday, but after a few days, it did not matter, in fact, maybe good as quieter. Be careful of the mozzies though, my legs were well and truly bit.
From our welcome at reception until leaving, it was always a pleasure. The staff are so hard working and very professional. The food was great, we especially enjoyed the Mexican, French and Japenese. I am giving this resort 5 stars, but there are a few buts.
When it rains, it is impossible to sit out on the balcony as the top floor roofs are perplex and wood and just pour in. Also, if caught in the rain around the pool area it would be useful to have umbrella stations. I was also disappointed when on arrival my birthday celebration was mentioned and they said they would sort something out. It never happened. A few occasions, the fridge was not stocked up or coffee making facilities topped up, leading us to either contact reception or go to the nearest bar for some milk.
We really did enjoy our holiday and these are minor issues. We will recommend this hotel to our friends and family. It is well worth the 11 hour flight. A special mention to the lady in the world cafe who made the omelettes, I think her name is guilliana? She was very attentive to our choice of fillings, always smiled when she saw us and remembers our order every day. A true professional. All the staff we met are. Well deserved of the 5 diamond award.

Room Tip: If you don't pay extra, be prepared to be stuck at the back in buildings 20 and 21 so take lots...
