We are a couple who enjoys relaxing, and this place was more than we could have imagined for our honeymoon. We went on September 3rd, 2012 and stayed for 5 nights. We booked travel arrangements to and from the airport with Olympic Tours, which included a van of 3 - 4 couples and took about 45 minutes from the airport after stopping at other travelers' hotels. Check in was very smooth, and while I was fully expecting a time-share sales pitch, we were never approached. Our room was in building 23 on the 3rd floor, and it was great - very close to the breakfast buffet and away from the noise of the pool. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, especially with how soft the linens and comforter were!

Food: Food can make or break your vacation, and the food was SO good. Oceana had some of the best shrimp I have ever had, Portovino (the Italian restaurant) had melt-in-your-mouth Osso Bucco, and the Japanese hibachi grill was the best dinner experience... make sure to book this dinner for one of your last nights. World buffet was great for breakfast and lunch. They had a seafood grill one night and there were so many different choices. One thing to keep in mind, at the French restaurant, they said they didn't have seats available inside unless you wanted to purchase a bottle of wine... when we declined, we sat outside (which was warm this time of year) and then saw that there were tons of available tables inside. It only happened the one time, but it's good to know for next time to be confident in having them seat you inside... you don't 'need' to purchase wine for that.

Drinks: Wine, liquor and beer was all included. If you ask for a margarita, or a Malibu and coke, they will use rail alcohol, which tastes significantly worse than call liquor. Make sure to specify that you don't want rail, and it will taste MUCH better! Drinks from the lounge near the front desk seemed to taste much better & stronger than the drinks at the swim-up bar. No need to upgrade wine, the house wine was surprisingly tasty.

Service: Incredibly friendly. Everyone said hello or hola in passing. While everyone speaks English, servers did appreciate us trying to speak in Spanish, especially after a couple cocktails. We would bring about $10-$15 US for the day. If a server or bartender did a very good job, then we would give them a dollar or two.

Activities: I was going into the trip thinking that resort activities are cheesy and lame, but the staff did a really good job of making it fun. The genuine enthusiasm of the staff made the activities fun. We decided to go snorkeling out in the reef. Was $40 per person, and it lasted about an hour. Overall, an okay experience - good to do once, but probably wouldn't do it again... not a ton of diversity in fish, and the salt on our lips and in our mouth was overbearing. For beginner snorkelers, I would recommend looking into snorkeling at Xel-Ha.

Beach: The most beautiful beach I have ever walked on. No pebbles to be found - it felt like walking on sugar. We rented a bed on the beach for $40 on the last day and it was absolutely worth it. Personal waiter delivered food and drinks throughout the day. Staff goes around the beach daily to rake up any seaweed washed ashore.

They were at 85% capacity and it felt as if there weren't that many people there. There were some mosquitoes at night, and we did get a few bites on our ankles, so we sat inside at restaurants when we could. Overall, an amazing place to vacation. We never left the resort - plenty of things to do, and if you don't feel like participating, it's a a beautiful resort to chill and relax... we could not have picked a better place for our honeymoon.

Room Tip: In the 6 days we were there, we only saw one couple using the swim-out room pool on one occurrence. Higher floors have a better view over the tree canopy. If you want to take a nap during the day, rooms in buildings near the lobby may be quieter - away from the pools.

We first visited SMB in sept 2010 and have just returned from our second visit. This visit was just as good as the first!
Amazing food and service all throughout the resort.
This time round we rented a cabanna for a couple of days on the beach. Although the waiter service is the same as you can get at the beach, we liked the pricay and comfort of the cabanna so definitly a must do.
We originally got upgraded to a swim out room but immediatly requested a normal suite as the pool room is so dark and we wouldnt have used the swim out pool. The room we got on the 3rd floor in building 21 was fresh and light and exactly what we hoped for.
We found all the daily special cocktails far too sweet as they seem to drown them all in syrup, but we ordered what we preferred instead so this was no problem.
We also visited the spa this time and its a must do! We had a couples massage after a long hard day in the cabbana on the beach :)
All in all another fantastic trip!

We just returned from our 7 night honeymoon at Secrets Maroma beach. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we felt like royalty. We stayed in building 17 on the second flood which is a preferred club ocean front room and the view was just stunning. Plus our concierge Roberto checked on us every single day and made sure we didn't go without. Our room was extremely clean and we had no bug problems. A few guests we spoke to in other buildings said they had mosquito problems but we literally saw none.

The food from room service was good but the food in the sit down style restaurants were superb! Of course the drinks were amazing great selection of beers and top shelf liquor. Just make sure you ask for it in your drinks or they make it with rail. All of the staff said hello, good morning and of course answered with its a pleasure.

The beach is the best in Mexico. hands down. Silky smooth white sand and water you can see straights down crystal clear. You did have to get out early if you wanted a lounge chair at the beach or around the pool but never was an actual issue. There was plenty of other places to set up for the day if you didn't get a chair. . . like the beach bar or swim up bar.

We didn't get bugged about buying into anything. they mentioned it once we said no and that was the end of that. Not pushy at all. not a big deal. We met a few people who did join because they have been back multiple times and obviously was the right thing for them.

We will be back next year. can't think of enough good things to say!

Room Tip: Preferred club was a nice bonus the personal concierge well worth it. Ocean front rooms are amazing but I imagine Ocean View Rooms are beautiful also! Building 17 was WONDERFUL location is great.

We just returned on 10/6/2012 from a week at Secrets Maroma Beach for the second time We went there for a week in Jan 2011. It was great. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean. The entertainment staff is Excelente!!! They have great energy and are alot of fun. The shows are very entertaining!! We played volleyball both in and out of the pool almost every day. I would recommend SMB to anyone who loves top notch service. Food was exceptional, with a great variety to choose from. You will be tempted to spend your entire vacation without leaving the resort, which isn't a bad thing.

Room Tip: Swim up pool suites are very nice in theory however, the water is a little cold. Rooms seem to be uniformly exceptional.

This place was amazing. The resort was beautiful, the beach was gorgeous, and the entertainment was fun. I have been to other all-inclusive resorts, and Secrets Maroma by far had the best food. The restaurants had incredible food (and were very accommodating to people with allergies), particularly Portofino. The staff at the entire place was so helpful and friendly, smiling all of the time. All in all, this resort was well worth the money.

Room Tip: I'd choose a room not on the first floor. We had the ocean view which was great.
